9.0.2 Shadowlands Discipline Priest Guide!

Read more about Shadowlands ➜ https://worldofwarcraft.mgn.tv

This guide seeks to give a rapid run-through of all the elements that shadowlands brings to the Discipline Priest and how to best make your decisions to prepare to play Disc!

Discipline Priest is one of the more unique healers in the game at the moment, focusing heavily on preparing for incoming raid damage by proactively applying Atonement before a raid-wide damage event occurs, then following through with a flurry of damaging abilities on the enemy to heal allies. While immobile and often vulnerable in their cloth armor, Discipline has excellent preemptive tools in Atonement and absorbs to rapidly reverse damage on allies keeping them away from death’s door.

  1. Thanks Jak, a helpful video. Surprised you didn't make more of shadow covenant though. A low cd reactive group heal that buffs your shadow mend is amazing in 5 mans, and coupled with kyrian it means you have two massive "oh sh**" buttons. All the best

  2. In my own opinion and after some dummy training and lot of heroic donjons (which don't match the raiding experience at all, but as I was a mythic raider back in legion), I started to run shadow covenant with spirit shell because of 2 things : 25% damaging bonus on schism and mindgames (which occur mean in your ramp mindgames will deal 156% damage) which can be converted into shield under the condition of having power infusion (if not, you have more chance to convert it into healing, which can be still useful depending on the situation), and the bonus of pretty decent healing bonus through the spell itself and the healing bonus on shadow mend (which is way more used since the PWS nerfs).
With clarity of mind on the legendary, the atonement duration will be long enough to carry out to the end of your burst even without the power infusion, which make it more regular.

I run it instead of the sins of the many because on this one, the multiplication of atonements nullify its boost, meaning way less shield, way less healing through atonement/shadow mend.

The lock on the vast majority of the toolkit is for sure a huge con, and I ended up fucked a lot of time unable to dispel something because of that, of forgot to put on my atonements before starting it.

But in fact the crazy amount of shield generated can be also useful in a mass dot scenario, since it will negate a lot of damage and help greatly the main healer in a raid.

So my conclusion is, depending on the encounter, one of the 2 talents may be picked, and running sins of the many 100% of the time may not be a good idea in my opinion (except in an early progress scenario of course) and shadow conclave should be considered more.

  3. Recently got back into WoW and decided to main Disc Priest. I've started doing mythics and I'm finding it incredibly fun if not quite the challenge. My biggest problem seems to be remembering to use all my kit, I often forget about barrier and feel I do not use rapture enough. Other problem I have is getting incredibly nervous when things start to go wrong and my hand starts to shake heh >_> Hopefully this will alleviate as I improve and get more confident.

  4. First of all thanks for you great job in community around disc priest!

It would be great to see a guide around two advanced topics:
    * how to analyze an encounter and build a tactic for it. You mentioned it in the very last section, but for people who are new to disc it is kind chicken and the egg problem.
    * how to properly use saves. Disc has a bunch of medium sized cooldowns and it is not clear how and when to apply then.

I think it would be great if you could take a mythic+ dungeon and walk through bosses and explain the tactic and then go through a recording and show these situations. I know, this is kind of advanced content, but this is something that is pretty hard to get and find.

  5. Spirit Shell in Mythic Plus is a requirement. I can't image running anything else, its so powerful and it will be necessary with prideful. Lots of AOE damage going out with "Trash" etc. Its a great damage stopper, certainly outstrips a 3%. Its clutch.

  6. Looking forward to the Holy priest video. I may eventually move into disc as the xpac progresses, but right now with such little gear available, I definitely struggle with keeping everyone up as disc. Holy is a cakewalk is comparison, when it comes to AoE.

  7. Great video! As always, very helpful
I took Kyr instead to be more M+ focused. I assume that can still take the place of mindgames, just not as often?

  8. Justtt an FYI: Updated the lego craft recommendation after this video. TLDR: Focus on Clarity first if you're raid-focused.

Sorry for those who already crafted, but good news is that its only a slight loss in stats early on that you'll be able to catch on soon when later Torghast wings open up. I removed the clips in the video referring to the old crafting order so it should be processed in a couple hours so everything SHOULD be where it needs to be on the vidya. As usual, thanks for the support I'm not perfect and always gonna try to get you guys the best info and update things rapidly when I need to make corrections.

Reasoning, new order and all that is in linked here:

  9. Hey Jak! SInce Spirit Shell is very much viable and the restriction on shield amount on players in the raid is a shared cap for all discs, what's your thoughts on having multiple discs in 1 raid? I know during testing (and during BFA) 2 discs has never been uncommon. Would 1 disc run SS and the other Evang? Will that make the Evang disc feel bad about being forced to run the suboptimal build? My guild has 1 disc 1 sham 1 pala and me having leveled and geared both a disc and a MW. I'm not sure what I should be focusing on as we get closer to raid opening :/

  10. Hi Jak,

As always great content, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on trinkets for Discipline Priests both for raiding and M+, and your thoughts on them. Though I’ve tinkered around I know you and many others on beta have probably got a bit more insight on this topic!

  11. Thanks for the small tips. Chose to main disc priest this expansion and have been absolutely loving disc priest healing. I just wish we had a true oh shit button that really negated mistakes by the tank or myself, but that's what makes us even better players. It's what I enjoyed with LoH and bubble with my holy pally last expansion.

  12. One thing I'd like your opinion on would be using Penance for direct healing. In raids during ramps it's obvious to use it as a damage ability but during dungeons or between ramps in raids, I'm not so sure if I shouldn't use it for direct healing on very low allies since it is very very strong currently in that aspect and can top of a tank when buffed and with some crit luck. On top of that since its healing is divided up into three bolts it's very unlikely to overheal during DoT situations or tank healing aswell. Currently I DO use it a lot like that whenever an ally drops below about 30% health.
Another question would be which preparations you'd suggest before going into heavy mind seer usage. Just a simply radiance and rely on its very low atonement or quite heavy shielding and risking to lose the window of opportunity where you could use it?
Thanks in advance for reading and your time 🙂

  13. Hey Jack, I have been grinding the correct thorgast gate for hours past week at the desired level 3. But didn't get "The penitent One" Legendary sadly.. can't find the dropchance for this?
Now I'm planning to go ASAP for the "Clarity of Mind", is this also a drop chance or a certain drop? 😀 thanks in advance, love your guides!

Raid focused, but also like M+.

Another Q: you use your Power infusion to get more attonements out in your ramp or is it more optimal to pump out more healing during the dmg phase?

  14. I am currently struggling with the disc in Mythic and Dungeons

I am constantly at a loss to get players pushed up and healthy.

Do you have a number where I can orient myself as to what HPS is considered good?
