With Dragonflight not selling as well as some other World of Warcraft expansions, a few of our viewers are concerned WoW may go the way of F2P…

For the first time ever I think they will be in a pickle when the MMO of riot comes out. And that would be not too long after 11.0 if I'm right.
The WoW community is already widely regarded as one of the most toxic gaming communities out there. Now, that's when it's behind a subscription and paywall; just imagine free to play.
Ps, I'm in support of f2p. I love drama and hate spending money.
I hope wow will never go free to play, this would be the end of it
I don't want to see the cosmetics ramp up even more than they already are so I'm ok with the subscription model still. Sucks there is no going back on the wow token play to win aspect though
Its already full of bots. Wont make any difference.
Wow is destroyed by all the crap they have done to the game over time with the levelcut, timelines, the game info you have to seek outside of the game on fan sites, screwed up and confusing lore with aftermarket adjustments to fit their newer storylines, the same story over and over again with just new npc’s and zones, all this ridiculous looking hyped up mounts, the transmog really have that drag queen feel to it.. oh! You look like a hobo change the gear to look like a million dollar. 😂 , all old professions that people have put in a lot of time on gets useless in newer expansions, and all these sales npc’s with white crap gear you wouldn’t even buy to a lvl1 character. And what’s up with all the useless crap in the talent trees, And I still haven’t found any in game explanations to the relic’s you get as quest rewards or as world drop to put on the artifact weapons you quest for in BfA! And all these twisted hybrid race versions!? And all the dead areas and city’s without any other gamers is just depressing!. And one more thing.. why the heck do blizzard (postmaster) send in game mail to a account on free trail who can’t even open the mail in the mailboxes!.😂 and also why the max 1000 gold on a free trail? Boters can still make new characters running around filling up theirs banks with everything from mining, skinning, herbs and other reagents and when all the characters banks is filled up they get a month subscription to sell off everything at the auction house to get the gold to do the.. yes you know what for irl money. And the gold grinding boters selling of all loot already subscribe to the game and I have seen them in game sins 2004. 🙄
Don’t get me wrong I really like the WoW world with the style of graphics, sounds, mechanics and sometimes the clever jokes but overall it have got out of hand and as a gamer I feel more and more like a lab rat to every new so called upgrade!.
How more can you monitize WOW with token, the game is LITERALLY FUCKING P2W
If Microsoft buys Blizzard Activision, do you think they will roll Wow into game pass?
This is a funny thing, have watched wow content from the outside for a while due to general interest in MMOS but haven tplayed seriously in so long cause I have to pay. If I could hop in a fiddle about with a few classes/characters up to lvl 50 or something I'd do it just to get a feel for the game again but they refuse to let you go past level 20 which you can get in the starting zone/
A MMO is basically a watered down lvl based rpg with mass coop and almost no reason to stick around after racing to beat the campaign then quit.
WoW struggles with retention because they simplify everything to the be pointless. WoW was more popular when it offered a range of challenges. The whole thing about being 'alt friendly' is that it means there is less to do on your main character.
Giving everything to everyone (welfare DKs on classic, easy gear) makes the game less engaging. Blizz are terrified to offer any challenge – they destroyed Diablo which total trash.
Private servers are free to play and they (generally) respect the game. Blizz free to play would just be awful, some free game time would be good though.
WoW needs a system like FF XIV's MSQ so that new players can meet the characters and be introduced to them rather than expected to know them or care about them. The problem is that WoW is all about thr endgame. Hence I would propose a new system of "Choose your adventure" with mode 1 being for people who care only about gameplay and they will be put i to the world as it is now, while mode 2 will be the New Player Experience, where you get an MSQ.
Thing is, this is too much work for Blizz when they can spend less time on a mount that they will put into the store.
A F2P model would be great as well, you would get into a Destiny situation where you can play whenever you want, as long as you purchased the expansion and seasons. With the price tag on the deluxe edition with the seasons being like that of a WoW deluxe edition, it is only natural I don't mind prepurchasing a D2 expansion for a whole year of content, while I'd have to pay a sub on top of that with WoW
should be free a long tiume ago
as long as leveling is short and easy the game is going to continue to deteriorate.
remove majority of the "qol" or "convenience" features and maybe we will have a game on our hands again…
they are trying to make it as much pay to win as they can without openly saying it. Token is the main tool. Remove token, ban boosters and boosted characters, ban all bots, stop trying to make this game about horde and alliance holding hands.
So I just wanted to chime in on the Free trial because I recently went through both again. Reasons being I was curious and never did WoWs new player zone and a buddy of mine was starting 14 so I made a new character and went all the way up to end of Heavensward with them to experience the new player process. I have a lot of thoughts honestly and I'll pro and con list them.
WoW:
Pros:
1. WoWs early combat definitely lends itself to giving the player more options in buttons to press over the period of time your in the trial.
2. The zone is reasonably diverse with different Biomes to interact with on the island and when you end up getting off it.
3. The quests are varied enough to not feel repetitive yet, the standout one being the bombing section.
Cons:
1. Story presentation is laughably bad, I say this because by the end of the free trial I couldn't careless about any specific character enough to remember their name or what they did in the story.
2. The game really doesn't do the best job in teaching you what to do honestly your basically just told figure it out bitch.
3. No real player interaction on the island, there's no real reason for multiple players to interact in the free trial because nothing makes you do that or really gives you the option to, even the dungeon is lead by NPC's and you cant opt out of that or at least I couldn't see an option too.
4. Length, honestly 20 levels just isn't enough either from a gameplay factor or a story factor to make you really give a shit but by the time your at the end it just feels really hollow as an experience.
5. Content, there is nothing really happening because the length of the free trial doesn't enable a lot of content to be in it.
6. It really has nothing to do with how the story proceeds moving forward, it could do so much more
FF14:
Pros:
1. Look lets just be real, sheer content alone is night and day but that is because it is an entire base game and expansions worth of content.
2. Story, by the end of heavensward you have had an absolutely wonderfully crafted experience that is told with competency.
3. ARR reworks, as of 6.1 all dungeons in ARR have either been overhauled to be more in line with modern design principals for the game or entire fights completely reworked for better experience.
4. No restrictions on playtime, as the meme entails no restrictions you can play up to the end of all level 60 content forever.
5. Community, outliers excluded just an overall wonderful group of people to interact with.
6. Accessibility, the game makes sure you know what you are doing at almost every turn to the point its almost jarring but for a new player that has to be helpful, small improvements can still be made here but its still a positive.
Cons:
1: ARR, the reworks are a massive help but ARR is still the weakest point of the game.
2: Combat starts out slow and I can completely understand why that can be a turn off for some people.
3: ARR Voice acting Yikes. (They all get recast in heavensward, only applies to ARR)
4. Lack of Quest variety
Honestly These are just small things and I could go on, but if I was to summarize from just a free trial perspective I would say this:
WoW feels like the guy that left all his college work to the due date and is doing just enough to scrape the pass.
FF14 is the guy that did the work on time, did it well and is reaping the rewards for doing so.
Since its in the title "Let's Be Realistic", ill be reallistic. I've been playing Wow since TBC launch, that is 2007. Throughout the years i've had 2 guilds, 1 alliance and 1 horde. The past few years i've been playing on and off and the thing is out of those 2 guilds, out of 50 – 60 ppl that i used to play with, there are currently 0 playing. So why should i pay subscription? So i can pug stuff? The game is not meant to be played like this as we can see from their recent updates. The way i see it i don't have a reason to play and pay subscription right now. If they went free to play i might give it a go as would many others. Yes wow will have to change in one way or another, but if it gets more people in, they will have more opportunities to get money ouf ot those people.
I hope there'll be less investment in WoW. Let it die.
Definitely agree with the points made
Lately I've had friends and new people say they've tried the game for 30-150 minutes or have leveled up to 20 but it didn't hook them.
They really need to have more opportunities or extension of the free to play level barrier cause what we have atm just doesn't seem to be enough at all and isn't hooking newcomers much at all.
While it used to work in the past where Blizzard could get away with charging a monthly subscription and making players pay for the latest expansion I think those days are over. If you want to charge a monthly subscription then all releases for the game are included. The alternative would be to drop the monthly subscription and make players pay for the expansions. I stopped playing about two months into Shadowlands as I thought it was utter garbage. This game as others have alluded to is really now only for Mythic+, raiders, and 3v3 arena. Blizzard has never ever actually told a coherent story where you could actually follow the whole thing during an expansion. Having to do Raids, PVP, or Dungeons just to see the overall story has always been a fail for me. For those of us that do not like that content just offer us a "Story" mode version of the raid, pvp, or dungeon and it does not need to drop the best loot. SWTOR has done this while offering harder modes of the same content. If Blizzard wants more $$ then they still have a long way to go.
The essence of wow is gone in these new xpachs. I leveled to 70 in 2 days. That's absurd and I don't feel connected to the character st all. Systems are not explained well at all. It's basically figure it out or use Google. The zones suck with all the trees and random hard to find entrances to catch up gear bosses. Leveling flying is stupid. Cannot stand vigor. Idk what raids are available. I just started a week ago and it's all just a jumbled mess.
Classic wow should be free I would be addicted again
I’m still waiting on my night elf Mohawk.
Wow storytelling and expansions don't flow well and are horribly jarring from an rpg story perspective. It doesn't transition smoothly from moment to moment in the story.
The game overall could use a full redesign of the past stories as something that can be played through as a rpg during leveling but then not be screwed up as you level or hit cap. But I don't think they are willing to spend the kind/scale of dev resources it would take.
RIP WoW private servers when the official one goes F2P
I had this mofo Dragons in my mofo mmorpgs.
well the thing is dragonflight sales being below the expected numbers is the direct consequence of BFA and shadowlands, and one does not need to be rocket scientist to understand that. Blizz has a very deep hole to fill that they dug themselves into over the years to get their reputation back.
I think you are vastly overestimating the amount of people that would be interested in WoW even if it was F2P.
I think the only free to play area should be the Default of Exiles Reach – BfA. Then at lvl.50 you gotta pay.
The current expansion you should have to pay and sub for, and the expansion prior you should need to at least be subbed for.
Blizzard needs to get New Players on the part… just do the Starting Island… then, after you come to Stormwind/Orgrimmar and were shown around you go to an npc that just tells you the newest and relevant story with already in the Game Cinematics…
Start with explaining, that Heroes pushed back the Legion and put the War to their Homeplanet, Argus. After defeating the Worldsoul of Argus Sargeras tried to stab our Planet (End Cinematic Argus), then do the Artefakt-Power-Sword Cinematic with generic text, that says that the Heroes needed to give up those powers to cleanse the Corruption of the Sword and that you'll be needed to heal the World… but also the Alliance and Horde went on war…
Then you start with BFA.
Soon they can tell the Story of "5 Years have passed since the fourth War and the Shadowlands-Dream… now you need to ride your dragon!"
WoW has the worst Free Trial in the industry.
Increasing the baseprice of the game didn´t help.
i'd come back if it was buy to play, buy the expansion and play unlimited – like Elder Scrolls online
Classic wow is from 2004. I’m not going to pay for that shit sorry. Make it free then I’ll play again.
WOW should be FTP and there is no good argument defending PTP besides greed. You can spend hundreds on micro transactions and other shit. Millions of new players would flood WOW if it didnt cost over a hundred a year + paying for each expansion and any microtransacs…
I got a 7 day playtime gift for WoW and i came back after that BfA shitshow. I do enjoy some parts of WoW again, but no way in hell i will be paying money to play it again. WoW should have gone F2P as soon as the microtransactions and in game shop were introduced. Buy the addons, buy some stuff in the shop, no monthly fee, but Blizzard/Activision are greedy af and so it will never happen.
Make it free to play like guilld war and keep cosmetics it will break the internet
Hey I'd play dragonflight if it was free to play! but 60-80$ + like 10-15 a month is too steep for my blood, that two week free trial was a blast!
Classic should be free to play tho.
The Free To Play can be done if the company work on getting the money from selling Expansions like each expansion need to be bought not just offered for free and during the time of expansion they work on cosmetic microtransaction and a lot of it if they want just they stay away from selling anything can make the game Pay To Win, so basically they keep Level Boosting microtransaction ( after getting First in that region leveled up ), and other cosmetics etc…
Free To Play could mean more cheating and more bots ?
well yes but even in the paid game we still see bots here and there and ads for selling gold and boosts, in Free To Play WoW selling expansion is a first check to reduce number of bots so basically every 2 years or less or more depends on the expansion they sell the expansion so less bots for a while then they work on their IT issues.
Free To Play world of warcraft could push wow to do better, look at CSGO in the end, also Free To Play World Of Warcraft means more users attracted, more streamers to stream the game and this could push free ads to the game, more streamers means more youtube videos, more tutorials, more websites like wowhead and more and more in endless ways.
I know paying 30euros/usd to play not much in some places and could be much for some other places but when you pay you feel like every moment you're not playing you're losing money and people want to play different games not only 1 game so basically I enjoy some FIFA, or some Forza and at night go raid with the boys.
I hope we can see the game go Fully Free to play with a full revamp or reboot of many things to make the game alive again.
cheers y'all
should be free to play
I'm not paying full game price for an expansion, a monthly subscription AAAND a cash shop.
The the f-word out of here.
free to play games now are making a lot of money with in game transactions
Only way Blizz would temp me to reinstall is if they went 100% *Free to Play* ALL content forever. As it stands, no chance I'll be back. Those that grew up with WoW have families now. I have to buy an expansion for 3 people, pay monthly for 3 people. I'm just going to play games that are either one and done payment or free to play. Blizz can keep their micro trans stores and float on their whales. This game came out in 2004! SUBSCRIPTION MODELS NEED TO DIE
I just don't understand how people still allow themselves to be scammed with a monthly fee. What I find hilarious is that WoW players act like they're better than other people because of that lmao. Just go F2P and amp up the cash shop. Who genuinely cares? You all should be so happy that you're not paying the stupid fee anymore.
I think it will go free to play now that it is bought by microsoft. they will probable use the same methods they use for ESO and make a in game store for pets mounts and cosmetic items and bonuses perks for subscribers.
Wow needs to be free to play
Paying 60+ to 15 dollars for sub and new expansion amazing game 👍👍
WoW couldve been a top good f2p game for new and old players. Peoppe can choose to spend irl money if they want. Also WoW shouldve made Blizzard dozens of money already so why tf they need to continue milking people every month.
