Forsaken will get a new capital but it will almost certainly be a city and not an undercity!

Undercity is almost certainly never coming back, so you can forget the sewers and the green rivers but instead the Forsaken had not only embraced a new emblem of Lordaeron and discarded the Sylvanas one but they had proclaimed they are done living in the ruins and hiding.

Conveniently at the exact same time we datamined a repopulated Gilneas with workers rebuilding which seems to 100% be an Alliance city and it seems setup for a big revamp in Midnight when this continent is relevant. In turn as Lordaeron has been cleared and secured in the past 2 expansions, it seems like the forsaken are going to be rebuilding a new Lordaeron in Midnight as well as a Horde zone. We might be in for a huge undead capital above the ground that will be something unlike anything we had seen before. So what is this new Lordaeorn?

  1. Seeing as how it's going to be a focus for the new expansion(s), I can see the revamped Quel'thalas as a neutral hub city like Bel'ameth. Technicaly Quel'danas is part of their kingdom and is already a neutral questing zone. With this new era of cooperation between factions in Shadowlands and Dragonflight seeming to continue, I can see the various elven factions coming together more. Despite the changes they've gone through, they are still one people, and have roots in both sides of the Horde and Alliance. I could see them equally as promoting cooperation between the two factions by opening their cities. Or going more like the Pandarans and Dracthyr and soon to come the Earthen, where they are welcome in both factions. It might even be interesting if all of those races banded together to form a neutral third faction, able to visit both sides, or choose which faction if any to support.

I am especially interested in seeing the Forsaken develop further. Becoming less insular and xenophobic than they were at the start is what I had hoped would happen with their story after Sylvanas was made Warchief. But we know how that turned out. With the retaking of Lordaeron and the formation of the Desolate Council it does seem they are finally heading in that direction now, and I'm excited to see where it goes.

I feel like helping the worgen reclaim Gilneas and then leaving them be would be a great step. They can't change what they did under Sylvanas during Cataclysm. But it would be a gesture of apology and even sympathy to help undo some of the damage they did, and I doubt they would be allies anytime soon if ever. But it will be interesting to see the parallels of both factions rebuilding Gilneas and Lordaeron to something that it was before. I do hope that the Forsaken don't give up entirely on the the spooky gothic design aesthetic. It's one of the things that drew me to the race.

So yeah… I totally can see the entire northern continent of the Eastern Kingdoms being revamped over the next few expansions. A lot of stories do seem focused on that area and promised revamped cities. The continued evolution of the world is a good thing. I'll kind of miss the old sewer Undercity though.

  2. Just take all the capitals neutral and be done with it. The faction system has made less and less sense over the years – Thematically and functionally.

Thematically, there is no justification for the two greatest powers to be warring with so many constant threats. And Functionally, it only segments an ever dwindling player base.

  3. I don't think there's a huge need to completely re-do gilneas. The assets they probably still have left over from initially making it would suffice. Filling it, adding some points of interest, some questlines and some portals and it should be enough. Visually it's pretty nice, it's no Suramar, but next to nothing as far as a usable capital is.

  4. I am still confused about what "reclaiming Gilneas" means. Are we just "reclaiming" it but not actually using it for anything? Or will players in 10.2.5 be able to set a hearth there and use the Gilneas AH, bank, vendors, etc…? "Reclaming Gilneas" is starting to sound more like an idea instead of something tangible. I mean it's great to have it, but not really meaningful at the moment if we have to wait 3+ years in real life to use it as a capital.

  5. The Forsaken having a city above ground would be amazing, new surroundings to explore, updated looks and feel, while the old undercity could be an amazing dungeon, still full of blight mutants and whatever the apothecaries had in their labs.

Bigger zones would be great, it'd actually give the game the scope that the Warcraft III had, perhaps with some of the villages coming back too, which could serve as new questing areas and hubs.

Got to say, the forsaken still has enemies all around them, the Gilneans were driven out by them, the horde helping Gilneas rebuilding isn't going to change the fact that there's a huge amount of enmity there, and the Scarlet crusade isn't proven to be completely defeated either.

  6. Keep in mind Tirisfal Glades is named that because it is where Tyr and Zakajz the Corruptor (a minion of Yogg-Saron) were buried, and the site has had “bad vibes” ever since. The High Elves nearly settled there but they were so overcome with the Void energies of the site that they moved north and founded Quel’Thalas there instead. There is clearly something still there that could be reawakened in service to the Void, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this site becomes important to Harbinger Xal’atath reestablishing the Black Empire. With it being the home of the Forsaken and on the doorstep of the restored Gilneas, that creates a lot of opportunity for conflict, as well as a complete reworking of the zone.

  7. It was about damn time the Forsaken started acting like a nation. They don't require sleep nor food or water, but their allies in the Horde do. Hence, they need to have lodgings available. And some form of food and water to serve them. Plus requiring no sleep literally gives them enough time to rebuild their homeland within weeks.

  8. I didn't really like when the Undead aesthetic changed to the cartoony purple gothic buildings so I hope if they do this, they get a new style. Obviously they won't live in graveyards, derelict houses or spooky barns anymore but they need a refresh for sure. Maybe an undead eleven model too wouldn't hurt.

  9. I hope they just make the zones capitals larger. Possibly even shift races / allied races around faction wise. All these changes sound promising might actually come back to blizz wow

  10. Tell us you don’t play undead without telling us you don’t play undead 🙄
For those of us who CHOSE to be forsaken, we love the grunge and the gothic darkness.
Making a shiny new city under a new emblem undermines everything that makes us forsaken.
They would be providing a disservice if they completely got rid of the Undercity.
Just reconstruct the above ground and leave the Undercity for those who enjoy it

  11. It would be awesome if they would also give us Dalaran in the crater as a new fleshed out neutral hub. IF they are planning on a Revamp of the upper Part form Eastern Kingdoms

  12. Why does he keep saying the red lordaeron banner is forsaken when it's been used by the Scarlett Crusade since vanilla? Surely purple or something, no?
    Forsaken bitches loove purple. 😛

  13. I am unsure how they are going to tackle the "dwindling of Forsaken" as most of the undead have been raised or refused-to-be-raised already. This means other races' dead will (or should) have the option to be undead going forward. If not, I don't see how or why (purely from a LORE and developer perspective) they would spend the time / effort / energy to revamp an area for a soon-to-be-extinct group that was already content living in the sewers.

The Forsaken (I played WC3 and vanilla WoW) were created by the Lich King's Necromancy and then lost the Lich King's influence and had their own will to keep on "living" or at least existing. But they discussed in Cataclysm (when Sylvannas wanted to use the Val'kyr to raise more bodies for her Forsaken forces) making more and it was deemed wrong / bad / etc. So, where are these new Forsaken going to come from? Why build a whole new city that will soon, be empty as the Forsaken rot away into nothingness. I play a Forsaken Warlock and I haven't had elbows or knees in some time so, if the rest of my character keeps rotting, what will be left of the Forsaken, or Undercity?

For those who say, people die all of the time, and they can be used, the whole problem with the Forsaken was that they were raised by the LK through Necromancy and unless we have a new Necromancer or some way to bring the current Forsaken back to life (and now they are Horde Humans because they were ill-treated by the alliance) I just don't see the point in making a new city…

  15. Its my wish that the Gilneas gets help from the forsaken in reclaiming their city and in exchange they tear down the wall to use for stone for new uppercity, completing the narrative cycle of glenn locking out many of the forsaken, with a peace offering being to tear down the wall that was used to lock them out

  16. Maybe midnight will show what wow vanilla and TBC doesn't in the top of eastern kingdom:
    – Quel'danas is suppose to be more big than this with some trolls camps
    – Quel'thalas, Runestones location aren't right and 2 are missing. We can't see the corrupted tree Thas'alah in Deatholme. The 2nd gates is probably Ban'dinoriel, the main gates of Silvermoon in the game but it makes inconsistencies with sylvanas' runners quest and death when she barrage arthas in fairbreeze village, the gates is prob missing in the game.
    – Plaguelands aren't consistent with hearthglen location and stratholme. Hinterlands should be in the east of plaguelands, border quel'thalas and arathi highlands.
    – Alterac mountains and greymane gates looks ridiculous than it must be. Silverpine aren't connected to Gilneas. River Arevass isn't represented in the game near lordaremere lake's and ridiculous than it must be. Silverpine aren't connected to Gilneas. River Arevass isn't represented in the game flowing from lordaremere lake's and near Pyrewood village.

  17. I always thought they would completely rebuild Lorderon, Ghilneas as Horde and Alliance respectively and then also put Dalaran right back where it was originally as the Neutral city right in between the two big cities trying to keep a delicate peace.

  18. what do the forsaken think they have left?. gilneas reclaiming means part of silverpine forest and half of hillsbrad becomes to teh gilneans again cuz big chunks of those zones belong to gilneans. next to hillsbrad we have arathi and stromgarde rebuild to the alliance so lets say hilsbrad is a good alliance teritory now. hinterlands belong to the wildhamer clan dwarfs. then you have western and eastern plaguelands wich the argent crusade is cleansing and restoring the lands so that part they cant take either they only got half of silverpine left and tirisfall glades. surounded by alliance and argent crusade and none of them will be willing to give those lands they reclaimed up not after all the blood sweat and tears it costed to reclaim and cleanse lordaeron lands. the forsaken got nothing to work with exept a blighted undercity and half of silverpine and unless they will claim the icy zone of alterac and its ruins they got nothing to work with. they might aswell pack up and leave. they lost too much they got nothing left what hope are they clining too? the ruins of a capital of an old alliance for the rest they got nothing. so unless they start claiming reclaimed lands again they wont be able to trive in half of silverpine zone and tirisfall glades only
