Desolace – Music & Ambience | World of Warcraft Cataclysm

Desolace, originally known as Mashan’she, is a large, arid region on the western coast of Kalimdor, nestled between the Stonetalon Mountains in the north and the jungles of Feralas in the south. The homeland of the barbarous Centaur, Desolace was once nothing but a massive grey desert, filled with dead trees and skulls of dead kodo, along with warring centaur tribes and the malevolent, demon-worshipping Burning Blade clan.
After the Cataclysm, the area has become far more fertile, with grass, trees, and increased settlement by the Horde, Alliance, and Cenarion Circle. Despite this, conflict continues to rage between various factions, including the Horde and Alliance. The Magram, Kolkar and Gelkis tribes of centaur continue to fight, whilst the demonic Burning Legion gathers in Mannoroc Coven. With the Burning Blade to the north in Thunder Axe Fortress, satyrs in the northeastern ruins, and naga on the northwest coast, Desolace remains a harsh environment even with the Cenarion Circle’s best efforts. The sacred Centaur grounds of Maraudon are the only instance in the area.

  1. Desolace is not so desolate anymore in Cataclysm. You can even hear a lot of 'Elves music'. I had trouble showing the harshness of the lands, since there's a lot of green in the middle of the zone.

P.S.: I hope this video gets more attention. The last one, Searing Gorge, went really bad. Worse than Bad…lands…

  2. Thanks Meisio! I remember mostly skipping this zone as alliance (not sure why), but really enjoying my time here as Horde. Desolace holds a special place since Mauradon is one of my favorite instances.

  3. This zone will always remebered by me…I ended up running the wrong way with my first char….and all of the sudden I died to many creatures in this spoky greyish desert 😀, still good memories !!

  4. Surprisingly, one of my favorite zones in Wow. I think it has to do with the inherent mysterious vibe and solitude that comes with it. On a PVP realm it takes on a whole new level. The RPG aspect of the game feels emphasized as a true “you’re in your own” the moment you step out of the camp.

    As always, thanks Meisio!

  5. I grinded to exalted with the Magram because on Turtle WoW they had the bis two handed axe for lvl 47. Probably could've leveled my Warrior to 60 instead of killing Kodos for 20 hours but alas, memories have been formed, not all of them good but enjoyable regardless.

  6. The Vanilla Desolace intrigued me so much. It was so empty, and it had an axe quest reward I really wanted. I remember grinding in the valley with bones and skeletons, and the entrance Maraudon was so cool. I loved running there and doing Princess runs for no particular reason but to do them. Gorgeous dungeon.
Even though that one has so many memories the Cata one was one of my "whoa" moments when I got there.
