One reason to have the Dracthyr in the game is to put players in the (metaphorical) shoes of these beings for who the entire story of the dragons is important, that the players had a perspective on before, which is that the dragons have always been around, but often elsewhere, and often things were going very badly for them
The threat of the demons was never that they were too powerful, but that there were a lot, and they would almost immediately be reborn and sent out again
Chris Metzen has some of the best stage presence, he can get me hyped over a bowl of ceral
Missed the stream since I was ah… playing wow haha
But! I would love to be apart of an in game community with all of you. This group is so overwhelmingly positive and full of seemingly wonderful folk. I currently belong to a community as is and we're both Roleplayers on Moon Guard (not that kind of rper lol) and casual raiders. We shoot for both KSM/KSH and AotC each season. I am a healer/DPS as a Holy/Shadow Priest. I am always down to help those who need!
Im so happy for this journey❤
I hope you react to warcraft 3 cutscenes and cinematics if you cant play the game bcz of time it needs
Someone noticed in the Dragonflight Cinematic Intro the colors in the shots? The race with dragons happened in “rocky floating islands” very “Earthy” color, the green dragons in the “nature”, the violet for the “storm” during Razaghest attack, the blue “magic” shooting from the Dracthyr, the red beam of “life” from Alexstrasza and at the end…. The bronze/gold color for the infinite? 🤔🤔
Basically, Neltarion did to dractyr what titans did to dragons, just on lower scale. And there is ingame book that says that Alexstrasza were going around infusing volunteers with titan magic, and if someone was against it, she would sometimes steal their eggs and forcefully infuse eggs. That infuriated other protodragons and they begun to seek some other powers to stop her. And that's how primalists came to be.
Look at you, recognizing the dragons by name after just seeing them for the first time! The way you've embraced these characters and thrown yourself into the lore we all love so much makes you very special to us. It's been wonderful to follow you on this journey.
As someone who was in the hall at Blizzcon during this announcement, I feel like I can speak with some authority over what the reaction was like to The Worldsoul Saga's announcement.
Everyone knew that Metzen was going to be at Blizzcon. Most of us anticipated that he would open the entire show, or at least the Warcraft segment. This ended up being Mike Ybarra and Holly Longdale, moves that make sense in retrospect, but at the time only continued to heighten the anticipation we all had. Opening monologue occurred – no mention of retail WoW. Phil Spencer showed up – no mention of WoW. Diablo happened, Overwatch happened. Where was WoW? Finally, time for Warcraft, but Warcraft Rumble being first up? WoW Classic? Cataclysm was nice but completely expected (and this particular announcement really suffered in the hall from our Metzen thirst) Season of Discovery? Sounds cool, but where's Metzen? So when Retail WoW's turn finally came, and Holly introduced Metzen, the energy in the hall was incredible.
Some of the old hands knew what was coming. "What up Blizzcon! Horde, where you at? Alliance, where you at?" This was the familiar Metzen greeting not heard at Blizzcon in so, so long. "Azeroth, as one!" This was new. It took a minute for it to register. The reaction, delayed. We just wanted to know what he had up his sleeve.
As Metzen laid it all out, as you observed, building the anticipation to the eventual announcement, the energy in the hall changed. WoW had been through the ringer the past few years, especially without Metzen at the helm, and we had all been burned by our enthusiasm for Shadowlands and BfA before that. We were cautiously optimistic, Dragonflight had been pretty good, a step in the right direction, but not revolutionary – which is what this had to be. As he spun his tale, his infectious enthusiasm for what was to come and the anticipation he built was absolutely real. He had the entire building absolutely spellbound. Not a single word spoken by anyone. He could have announced literally anything and we would have loved it. So when he announced the Worldsoul Saga, it took some time to register exactly what this was. I don't think it fully registered until much, much later, but at the time, we didn't care. It sounded freaking awesome, and the call to "come home" could not have been clearer.
When the cinematic dropped, with Metzen's preface I was prepared for something different than the cinematics we had previously received. Dragonflight's reveal trailer was more of a showcase of the expansion's theme more than anything. I was praying for something more story based. I was not prepared for the level of quality or emotional pull the trailer carried, though. Audible murmurs when Anduin was revealed and looked so different, and like shit. Gasps when he pulls his sword on Thrall and strikes the Arthas pose. When the music swelled to the climax, Thrall's "I trust you," and Anduin's anguish, not a dry eye in the house. Everyone was moved. And then when the sword was revealed, the entire hall exploded with "OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Incredible feeling here, because ever since that sword was left there at the end of Legion, it had become a real sticking point with the community. It felt like Blizz had just… forgotten it. To see that was not the case, that it was a center feature of the new expansion was cathartic to say the least.
Hope this helped bring you more into the building! I'm loving your journey through the Warcraft lore, and your insight and perspective as a professional filmmaker into the cinematic technique and storytelling is refreshing and enlightening! Looking forward to seeing your next steps in Azeroth!
I mentioned this before and don't know if you seen it, but if you like reading I highly recommend "The Warcraft Chronicles" books. A lot of details of the lore in them if you are interested.
You should look at Ion Hazzikostos' interview with Asmongold and the "what sword" remark lol
