There were also tomes spread out on the ground and spawning in certain area's in the dungeons. It could contain class books and a chance of an epic book called: Compendium of Dragon Slaying, that unlocked a questchain leading to obtaining the one handed tanking sword Quel'serar. These books also dropped from bosses and could drop from Tribute Chest.
In Vanilla players found out a way to farm the books, by running into the instances and checking the known spawn locations and kite pulling the mobs, so there was enough time to open the tomes and check them. After run out, reset and repeat.
Blizzard patched it by adding limit of instance reset in a certain time.

Best wow version
They appeased the player, who defeated King Gordok (becoming 'Da New King'), by giving them unique loot and special 2hr buffs.
That was a fun one for sure. Vanilla WoW was just awesome all around.
Back when wow wanted to be an actual RPG. The mechanics behind the hardmodes in Ulduar were also great and would even today be revolutionary
