Discussing the differences in healer throughput cooldowns in Dragonflight M+ and why the meta or S tier specs are so strong compared to those that are lacking. In my opinion at least, the 40/40 buff has shifted the focus of what Healers bring to a group heavily towards healing cooldowns, externals and raw throughput instead of mostly damage like we saw in Shadowlands.
I am happy to see an expansion and meta where healers are valued for their healing again but I’d like to see the specs that lack fundamental aspects of their toolkit like multiple throughput cooldowns or defensive externals get a serious balancing pass.

Divine hymn is actually pretty strong, especially with the talent buffing it by like 16% then 100% more healing in dungeons. Tbh I think people are hard sleeping on hpriest because their normal rotation if heal/flash heal is enough to actually move health bars like every healer could before the 40% change. Holy word: life is OP too for both priest specs, you get an almost lay on hands every 10 seconds in keys, it's bananas
The 40% HP Buff is not a nerv to healing throughput XD. Now healers can heal finally something. No you finally see which healer is good healer. A druid basicly had 50% overheal so he dont care about more HP to Heal XD. i personally dont play evoker because like everytime Blizzard will nerv them into oblivion later for sure.
Im strongly considering maining Hpal.
The thing I've liked about Holy priest since Legion is that it's very versatile. Going into DF, they've cut back some stuff and reworked them into weaker passive. My feel is that it's REALLY good at just firehosing healing in M+ either in an aoe or single target depending on build. The issue is that it's either on or off. It's been very fun just to shrug and not mass dispel bursting stacks just to see how much my undergeared ass can heal with DWsanc, Circle, PoM, and PoH. Don't even need Apotheosis most of the time. The problem is that I WILL and then that's it. Hymn is more of a hail mary than anything due to it needing to ramp up AND it plants you.
If the higher max health next season means that all that overhealing would instead go to actual healing, then being a hot class might be nice.
I'm looking forward to raid healing though. The pom -> Apotheosis talent seems lackluster until you realize that Salvation applies 40-50 stacks of pom which are ALL going to go off in the next couple seconds. And since holy words applies to the holy words themselves on salvation…
Maybe with Lust and PI, we might be able to spit out 2 apotheosis procs close together. The holy grail would be if through some haste breakpoint, we could get 2 Salvation casts in a single minute. With 100% haste, we'd get 2 ppm even without salvation. I don't know what we could use it for, but all that healing sounds amazing…
If people remember, most people were very down on paladin going into Shadowlands. Everyone was 100% convinced it would be the worst healer because it was the worst at keeping up with the damage.
We are testing with subpar talents, subpar group comps, subpar knowledge of the dungeon itself, etc…
When people actually start to push the possibilities, damage on the healer will be just as important as ever.
Regarding your chart:
-Spirit link is an external, not a throughput cooldown. By definition, its something that is external – goes on players other than yourself to save them, gives them a buff like a DR, shield, etc. Throughput Cooldowns are buffs that go on yourself to increase the power of your abilities.
-Symbols of hope is an external/utility hybrid because it lowers their own defensive CD's, worth considering.
-Does spirit shell still exist? That would be a disc priest throughput CD. I dont think it does which is total dogwater if that's the case.
-Both priests have holy word life as a potential throughput CD. Halo could count and Power Infusion should count, since it increases your healing by default since you also get its effects. Holy word Salvation may be worth mentioning even if unpopular.
-Shadow covenant also works for Disc, even though its a short CD its a big power boost in that window.
-Jade serpent statue would potentially be a throughput "enhancer" for MW even if its a very, very weird one with no downtime since it continues to channel even after you stop, making itself sort of like an storm earth and fire clone of healing, just really bad at it.
-I would count ring of peace as an external since it lets you effectively melee BOP somene for its duration so you can heal them up.
Its fine if you wanted to restrict them to major CD"s only but this these extended ideas are just something to consider. This list is by no means exhaustive or definitive.
Solid content 🙂
Hey Rife, im watching alot of your videos recently, could u upload your UI ? its really good in my opinion. Would be nice if so
If healing meta = survivability meta, then I fear we're going to be back to healer legion meta of Hpalas and Rdruids ALSO because they can wear tank trinkets. In this scenario even Evokers will be left out (and MMonks if they remain bad). If this is the case I hope blizz considers this when designing tank trinkets so they are not useful for healers survivability in M+
I would say there is still a healer tuning pass to come before launch
A mw or a holy prist dont need more cd!! De heal output is stupid strong!! A pala or a dudu neet the cd like rota becouse without them they will ne miles a way😁😁
Pretty sure evoker will be meta cause of the hero/lust. The only way that is interchangeable is, i would think if Beast mastery becomes meta. At that point Druid or paladin might make more sense.
MW really needs a buff. They have the worst external, and the worst healing cd with revival. Not to mention their mana costs when they need to heal heal are worse than i think any other healer. It just doesn't make sense.
Great content. You do really solid videos and thanks for that. One pointer I might offer is for the video themselves, your audio sounds rough or tin cannish… I'd recommend Audacity, it's a free audio program that cleans up the background and dials into your voice. If you ever watch someone like HazzelNuttyGames she even has a video on the making video parts and recommends this. This is how she gets that very crisp clean audio. Just a tip, but you do great content and thanks for that!
bump
And just like that blizz has gutted mistweaver once again, and Druid and paladins get to shine…..again.
I’ve read that mistweaver has the raw throughput but not enough CDs to fall back on. Would you say this is fair? Or is it more dire than that?
Enjoyed your vid mate
Barrier is a second external, since it does no healing but is another DR. Throughput still needs to see when we go live as Scov buffing damage helps a lot
Can you please share your UI ? As a healer I'm falling in love with your UI
Hpriest is being misplaced on just about every list I've seen (I understand tier lists are opinionated blah blah). Hpriest cooldowns and combos are largely misused and scarcely understood. I recognize that throughput is becoming the deciding factor of the meta (yay), but that said, gear and buffs being equal, my hpriest will outpump the top 3 listed in the top tier every day, and will have mana left over.
Well, I certainly don't think you're wrong. It kinda feels like we've all had this discussion a few times in the past, too, so I'd say history proves you right, but I also look to my own experience playing mistweaver in season 1 of shadowlands and feel like for many people, it comes down to how well you play your class and the people in your group focusing on mechanics/personals/etc. than the meta really making or breaking anything (at least at the level of ~20 and below).
I do worry though that just like in season 1 of SL, I'm going to get pushed by the content duje to this 40% change to have to really focus harder on healing even in packs, which is fine with me, I actually don't mind the way MW plays when focusing on casting, but I was reeeeally enjoying how smooth the fistweaving changes were playing. I'm hoping I can manage to ride a balance but I gotta get a feel for how hard things are hitting my party in the new dungeons. I feel like a big part of how I had to play in S1 of SL was my tanks getting absolutely chunked so I never really had time for maintenance healing through fistweaving and largely focused on raw healing. The discussion on healing isn't complete without talking about tanks, and they're seeming a lot more self-reliant than the kiting meta that was necessary in S1 of SL. So I'm hoping that if I don't need to dump as much healing into my tank, I can manage keeping my party up most of the time easy enough with fistweaving/vivfy cleave. Like you said though, you gotta know in advance where to use celestial and I tend to hold revival for emergencies or mass dispel (sadly, it's true use in M+).
I think it'll all be ok no matter what healer you play, but I gotta admit, been playing an evoker and I feel like I'm cheating compared to MW. I don't want classes completely homogenized and reduced to flavor, but damn, evoker feels like it just has so many ways out of situations and they're all back pretty quick. Longest CD is Rewind and you can choose to either get it down to 3min or gain an extra charge at reduced healing. It's so much that it scarcely feels like an "oh shit" button and just a lazy "eh I'll just rewind this" button because you know you'll be fine. That's a very different feeling than anything I have on MW.
