What is going on gamers. Today we are running through the first half of Legion story/quest achievements in World of Warcraft. And Legion is insanity. We go on a journey through a land of meth, spooky druids, and precious moose Tauren. We gotta get some allied races before Dragonflight comes out, and this is going to get us there.

The achievement man series is about my goal of getting every WoW achievement from a fresh World of Warcraft account. I do this because I am a degenerate.

  1. since 2005 i never read any quest text in game. instead i always get caught up on lore through recap vids like this year's after I've finished those quests for the first time

  2. I generally love the story of Legion, but the existence of Val'sharah has always massively bugged me out. It's like if the devs just did a "Night Elves 2.0" without really caring about the implications. The main story of the Night Elves have them arrive in Kalimdor after the Sundering, leave behind their arcane past and embrace druidism under Malfurion and Cenarius, and get blessed with immortality from the world tree Nordrassil which was specifically grown to be a plug on the new well of eternity on Hyjal. Then, Cenarius sets up shop in Moonglade, because it's the place on Azeroth that's the closest, metaphysically, to the Emerald Dream. Bam, simple enough.
But then…. Val'sharah just… exists. Is apparently even more magicaller and naturaller than Ashenvale, and has its own world tree that predates Nordrassil, for some unexplained reason, and has all these immensely powerful druids who are closer to the Emerald Dream than anyone, but also they didn't do jack shit when Archimonde came to kill all night elves and burn down Nordrassil to nuke Azeroth. And later, when Malfurion took the boat over to chase down Maiev and Illidan across the Broken Isles in the Frozen Throne, they also did jack shit and were never mentioned (because of course they hadn't been made up yet).
Also, in Aszuna there's the Watcher's prison, apparently for all of their worst criminals, but… they already had a prison, under Hyjal, where they kept Illidan, who was the reason the Watchers exist to begin with? So did some of them specifically take a boat across the sea and build a prison far away from the rest of the Night Elf civilization just for the hell of it? And why did they not interact with Maiev when she sailed across the sea chasing Illidan during WC3? And why did Maiev seem shocked that the Broken Isles even existed when apparently the organization SHE LEADS had a massive prison complex there all the time? (I know the answer, of course, because Blizz hadn't made it up yet, but I'm talking about the in-universe implications here). It's just…. really incognruous if you think about it.
