6. I would add City Of Heroes to this list. A superhero / villain – game that had its servers shut down years ago. HOWEVER something happened that, to my knowledge has never happened before: Unofficial server opened up and after several years these unofficial servers has been granted an official license. So this means that City Of Heroes is officially back, thanks to dedication from both fans and publisher. Oh and its really fun, with both PvE and PvP content.
   Need a cherry on top? Character creation options leaves DC Universe Online in the dust.

10. By your criteria, you should not put WoW retail in the same spot that FF XIV and RuneScape. WoW retail is totally p2w, you can buy anything with real money. The monetization is horrendous. It has monthly subscription, cosmetic/ mounts/ pets shop and Batlle passes. The only thing it does not have is loot bosses.

12. Eve online is probably the only MMO on this list that can’t be categorized because of how niece and unique it is. Whenever I see someone do a review on it I am just baffled because it doesn’t play like any mmo. Every skill or ship you want to fly or use is learned in real life time not by killing X amount of things or reach Y amount of level because that’s not how the game works. There is no level. You want to fly a ship? Well that’s gonna take you at least 30 days in real time to do if you want to make level that ship but that doesn’t include sub system, gunnery, warp travel etc… this is where the game is very different

13. Love ESO, best mmo game design and execution for me. GW2 is also great. And I do also mist Rift. I don't get WoW… I've tried about once a year for years now to start it back up but it's just SOOOO old and slow and clunky tab targeting.

18. Bro you dont have to spend cash in auction house in Throne and Liberty. Common misconception. Simply doing raids or open world dungeons you find stuff to sell in AH all the time and that gets you premium currency. I've made thousands of lucent without spending a penny.

20. Lost Ark upsets me more than most. I absolutely hate the paywall in this game. I put so much time into when it came out, and i quickly realized that you would need to spend to keep up or have a full-time job running alts. I love the gameplay, but they ruined it with this stupid crap.

    WoW play time 2004-2022,
    GW2 play time 2012-2025 (still active),

    In WoW you don't have to buy items for money (which is just optional in GW2), but that's why without money you can't even play anything more than lvl 20 (and subs. are mandatory!).
    
    Think about it.

    GW2 is so much better than WoW that it's impossible for any game to reach that level. At least during the active existence and development of GW2.
    It is absolutely false that it lacks group games, since it is extremly easy to jump into open world boss fights, dungeons, raids, fractals or anything directly through the search system (similar to LFG in WoW), or without a group, you just come to a place where something live is happening on the map and join the battle.

    In WoW it is impossible to do anything better unless you have a Guild run or you pay with real money to boost you illegally.
    Much better graphics than WoW, far better game dynamics, reward and achievement system that is account wide, improvement of the characteristics of the whole acc through endgame Mastery systems, it is something that vov can only dream about. I say this as a veteran in WOW, as I mentioned before.

    Well just imagine the quality of GW2 and how many gameplay combinations there are when each class and each weapon gives different hit combinations and gameplay rotations. So, it's not the same whether you hold a two-handed sword or a two-handed hammer, it's not the same whether you have a one-handed sword plus a dagger, or you take the same objects but switch places in your hands (main & of hand). With every change, everything changes (spells, rotations, visual combat). And all that I mentioned changes if you get in the water! In water you can't use what you can on dry land 🙂

    Quite simply, it's a perfect game.
    And he did NOT Pay2Win! You can buy a bunch of things with money (not all of them), and yes you can buy armor and weapons, but you can also do that during gameplay.

    The important thing is that it is IMPOSSIBLE for someone to use money to buy items that will make them stronger than you who didn't want to pay $.

    And that is important.

29. pantheon rise of the fallen, embers adrift, project gorgon? where are some of the more classic MMOs that are competing for players? pantheon alone is more popular than a lot of the ones you listed.. over 30x more popular than everquest 2. EQ lead also worked on pantheon before passing away and gettin the co-creator to work on it in his stead, looks to have a solid start that can be indicative of where it's gonna go.

30. You forgot Shadowbane! 😭I loved Shadowbane! DAoC was awesome! And what about Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (by Funcom)?…How about The Secret World? Loved that game! So, you never heard about 'Anarchy Online'? And you also forgot the world's oldest MMORPG? I loved Ultima Online! Neverwinter Nights who aired back in 1991…But hey, you have some of the good once at least. With age, you shall learn and remember them all, young padawan…I wish for the future of any MMORPG, that all PTW, will be illegal for that exact genre worldwide, earn glory, earn your right to wear what you do, earn everything.

34. I Sunk YEARS into RuneScape….then one day they decided I was done with it. They perma-banned my account with no explanation. No appeal. Nothing. Do business with them at your own risk. Getting Perma-banned having broken no rules is a really bad feeling, and that company wont hesitate.

35. Hearty thanks for your kind explanations of WoW despite all the disputes out there, as a devoted RP player the world of Azorath has never died from me. It is a charred plant which I definitely believe is thriving with the ‘good news’(WoW player should know).
    In addition, I have never tried other MMO or RPG for their lores don’t attract me and are not compatible with my concept of the world of Azorath and because playing them all is very time-consuming. If anybody is going to argue about how narrow my view is, I would like to further express my wish here that there could be all types of games related to Warcraft😂

37. Why is it in all of these mmo tier lists i never see star wars galaxies? Never have i ever had so much to do and so much fun with different styles of pvp than with that game and beg developers to take a page from that insanely ambitious game as an example of how expansive a game can be!

43. Kind of an L take on T&L imo, not saying it isn't a C rank but more so the reason being the auction house mechanics. Easily make 2k lucent a week (about 40 dollars if I were to buy it with cash out right) it allows f2p player to get the battle pass and cosmetics that would cost money just by playing the game. If I had to give a reason for it being c rank it'd be that the pvp mechanics are number based. Currently allowing zergs to absolutely destroy the pvp aspect of the game, and control the entire server

44. I just wish more recent MMOs can innovate with the classic class-based party roles (healers, buffers, debuffers, tanks, etc.) and not just the typical one-man army endgame boring stuff. Its so boring and defeats the purpose of it being Multiplayer if everyones is just another DPS turret

45. I agree on most but a game like EverQuest should be much higher. It was huge in its day, and a massive influence on a lot of games like WoW.
