  1. It seems uber simple, but my GF recently picked up WoW for first time, and it was eye opening the amount of simple movement, controls, and logic that we as veterens know, are never even covered in the game. I feel I need to explain entire aspects of the game and the controls, that are crucial to play and understand the world, but they are never taught via in-game tutorials or anything. I think this starter zone is a great area.

  2. I see your point at about 21:00 how going straight to BfA won't really give new players a lot of context, and I think you're right. That said, I don't think that's a big change from current live servers, at least for players who started fairly recently. Blizzard's attitude so far seems to be that players should get to the latest expansion as quickly as possible, which is great for returning players leveling up an alt, but for folks like me who only logged on for the first time about 9 months ago, it means we miss out on a lot of the story: I completely skipped BC and Cata, and I saw less than half of each of WotLK, MoP, WoD, and Legion before leveling out to the next expansion. (I'm still unclear on exactly why Sylvanas burned down Teldrassil — afaict, if you miss an expac's prepatch, you're basically SOL for its story.)

If my understanding is correct, though, I think Shadowlands will be a big improvement in one respect. Returning players will have more options for leveling: once you get to SW/Orgrimmar, you'll be able to talk to Chromie and choose a different expansion to level in, instead of going to BfA. You can choose to change expansions later, but I believe you'll be able to stick with that expansion from level 10 all the way to level 50, so you might actually have a chance to complete one of them and get the full story. Once Shadowlands is released, I'm thinking I'm going to go back and level up a bunch of alts just to catch up on all the lore I missed.

  3. I actually agree about the professions.

Making newer players aware of them via the starting zone would be nice instead of finding it on their own accord.
