World of Warcraft Factions have been a point of divide for many WoW players and now in WoW Shadowlands its become one of the core issues in gameplay but do they have to remove WoW Factions to fix WoW faction balance?

I would love this!
What I would do to factions if I am Ion or Morgan Day:
1 Upon character creation, player only chooses race and class. While doing the storyline, the player may and may not choose a faction, and if a player chooses a faction, it can be changed however the player wants. Players do not have to choose a faction to do any late game contents. PvP, raids, mythic plus, torghast, world quests, none of them requires choosing a faction. Guilds are not limited to one faction too, and a guild can have players from both factions, because I think for an optimal player experience, lore and gameplay must be completely separated, so that if a player is only interested in doing Torghast, they do not even need to know what Azeroth is.
2 In the lore of the game, there are factions. The two factions are generally against each other, but each leader in the Horde or Alliance has their own interest. So it is more like a real world situation, where no two country will be pure friends, and the only thing that can tigh countries together, is interest. I also do not really like Accolonn's idea that everyone in the alliance wants to kill everyone in the horde. I think that type of narattive is naive because it would be unreasonable to think that those politicians will let their people to truly have pure friendship with another group of people. Literally the number of this thing happening in the real world, is zero.
3 When a player chooses a faction, it unlocks features exclusive to that faction, but does not prevent the player from entering the cities of the other without being attacked. A horde player, a neutral player, and an alliance player each can go to Stormwind to buy things, but only the alliance player may see the King personally. Same for the horde council or warchief.
Why do I think this is a great idea? Because while I do agree that players should choose faction based on their belief and ideology, two people can have contradicting ideology but still be friends in the real world, and if two players are friends in the real world, I think it is really a bad design to prevent them from playing with each other.
They should remove the old devide between horde and alliance its will give more freedom story wise.
Instead they should use smaller faction that already exist in the game maybe like the earthen ring or a cult or any organization and build around it and overarching plot .that way theres no limit to the stories you can create
Life Light Order vs Death Void Chaos
I started playing night elves, I fucking love them, but I've grown apart from them and changed to the horde, and by doing that I ended up having to change chars. I love worgens, and it sucks that Î have to play alliance, when I don't identify with them, just to play what I like, and worse, it's not like it's an impossible change. Pandas can do it, why can't i?
Eh, whatever. Couldnt care less about MuH fAcTiOn InTeGrItY, i just wish i could play whatever i want with no drawbacks whatsoever.
The simplest and easiest way would be to just dissolve factions, but there are too many faction purism whiners among the playerbase and, worse of all, among the devs themselves. Ya, your idea of choice of race and faction being separate works too. Although i think they should also remove any and all racials that affect combat in any way. No more reduced cd for orcs, no more night elf invisibility for m+ abuse, just oh nice as a human i get extra rep and as a vulpera i can set a camp on that old raid i farm. The goblin racial on ToS is what started the snowball effect of the game being almost only horde now.
Oh like how it used to be in Everquest 2, I can live with that! 👍
City of Heroes also had something like these when you could pick between being a Hero, vigilante, villain, and rogue….I loved being a Rogue!
Now WoW is going all woke, story isn't about to improve…I think on some level we all know that. Look at their response to controversy. They're going back and retroactively removing anything remotely edgy and/or funny, like that's solving anything. No, moving forward we can expect the most basic, "safe," and boringly basic stories from Blizzard.
This sounds like a great idea!
I love it, it’s a great idea. If only Blizztard was capable of doing anything that would be this fun.
I like it … it reduces my need for alts . It might save my alt sanity.
I like this concept. I would put a twist on it. From lore perspective, PVPers could be "rogue" characters not belong to any faction, therefore they can form aren/battleground teams absolutely freely. Also, world PVP could be very interesting since it is kinda free hunting season.
I absolutely love this idea but I would go a step farther and allow for same faction battles in PVP or guild to guild pvp battlegrounds. That would help for those folks that are on imbalanced servers.
Has been done in siege of boralus. I'm sure they [blizzard] can do it. But will they? Nope . . .
Pvp for factions , PvE let us cross faction play , dungeons and raids cross faction.
Personally i think the factions should stay as is but we would need to address the issues that players have when it comes to making groups. My fix:
FIRST
-SIGN UP-You can sign up to both Faction queues for everything once you've unlocked those dungeons, raids (even PVP) via the standard story quest line for those queues. When searching or signing up you can choose either your own or the enemy faction queue/search – in some instances this makes no difference to the narrative and in others you will be exposed to what the other side experiences. Done.
This way you keep the rpg distinction for everyone without it impacting their ability to play afterall they've already cleared that part of the story and replaying the dungeon or raid is purely a gaming construct not a narratvie experience.
SECOND
-PANDARIAN GUILD CHARTER-Can create a Pandarian Guild after a questline that allows you to either create or to join a factionless guild. This would allow for cross faction friends to guild up and do guild runs subject to the sign up set up i previously stated. Done.
Everyone can play with everyone and everyone can play everything with everyone save for the initial story line quests which are faction centric as the narrative dictates. This would allow for the designers to incorporate factionless raids and dungeons into their questing more often as well.
I dont think people appreciate that allowing a choice between the bad ass Horde and the goody 2 shoes Alliance will always lean in favour of the horde. If you allow everyone to choose whoever they want and join whichever faction they want you will invariably get people choosing their favourite race (or pick the one with the best racials) and then they will choose the HORDE and no one will remain in the Alliance.
The only issue is it takes their cash shop for faction swap away
For PVE I think it would be great and i would fully support that. From a PVP perspective, I could see it being abused heavily unless you have some sort of timer built in for changing factions. Players will always find the path of the least resistance.
YeNoo
Why not treat it like FFXIV treats if you wanna change which company you join?
When I first picked a character I wanted to become an Undead Elven Hunter (reference to Sylvanas), which was not possible. First all Undead were human, second undead didn't have hunters. So I ended up with night elven hunter and during molten core switched to druid since we for some reasons burned through druids like candy and I was pissed, that we had no stable druid base. I'm still playing that druid today. So… if undead elven hunters would have been an option I would be horde today, I guess. For gaming reasons I would have switched, but all those Feats and items I cannot keep then would be horrible (Atiesh, look and feel, nostalgia, etc).
I'd love to join any faction which features sylvanas or jaina repectively. Every other main character is irrelevant to me.
Interesting idea, I would love to play a blood elf paladin on alliance side, but I can't see a world where Blizzard would get rid of the faction swap option in their store and make it a free option.
I want to play a Human but everyone I know plays horde.
– guild factions/dungeons = awesome, but it's a new 'champion' rep mechanic.
– every this-or-that guild-rep-choice is a very-simple guild buff. your horde guild chooses aldor for +1% heal-crit, versus scryer's +1% mana.
– defection island (randomized expedition/scenario for single/pug)
– defection warfront (randomized scenario for guild)
– imo, the only realistic path back to players interacting is limiting lfr/lfd to 1 and 2 a week, but normal if it's with guildies. without an incentive for player reputation, it will continue to be a massively single player role-less player game.
<3 your work, sir.
Why alliance they want to play with Horde, how can the blood elf’s forget the massacre in dalaran 😆 when jaina killed them , don’t forget alliance genocide tuaren , and those void elf’s traitors they cannot join Horde , what about king restkan and he’s ppls , what about goblins they died in BFA nah , Horde is fine all we need to kill alliance leaders and let’s us enjoy 😊sorry m8 ur no longer as Horde player
You could actually put more emphasis on race differences if you make them non-faction dependant you could actually bring back the idea of giving classes race specific spells
I would love this! SWTOR is kinda like this. I roll the race but the class determines the faction. With the new expansion, there's gonna be a combat update so that (for example) I'm a Sith Sorceror, I can also add Jedi powers and use those. Let's be serious though cuz shooting lightning is badass so most likely I will be changing combat style on my Jedi Sage to shoot lightning instead of throwing rocks. 😛
I hear what you're saying though cuz I've wanted for WoW and SWTOR to be able to have a quest line where I'm eventually approached by the opposite faction and through out the missions, I make choices (like the loyalist campaign except they actually do make a difference) where eventually I decide whether to stay in my current faction or I go to the other one. FFS, Pandas can do this, why can't the rest of us???
The idea is superior to the current but Bliz wont do it because it reduces revenue….even though it would actually raise more over the long haul because it's better for the game.
Wow lore has become bastardized to confirm to making profits. Have you seen Arcane? Riot have made massive efforts to creative an expansive universe of lore around the league of legends universe over the past few years
i don't get what factions offer anymore. Jaina is gonna bang Thrall so w/e, if they can bang why can't we 😛
People. Have you forgotten? The final mission of Wc3 (Reign of Chaos) is called Eternity's end. Just as the next patch of WoW is. After this, the alliance and horde races banded together, until Admiral Proudmoore fucked it up again. Queue drum roll. Something big is happening at the end of Shadowlands.
Not bad, I like It
Make WoW Everquest.
This is why I like the faction stuff FFXIV has. The faction or companies represent the city main areas of the world. They do pvp against each other as training and why the wolves den is a place to get that our area is better attitude out there and it's more of making each other better at fighting. Now the FFXIV world is always going to have a bigger bad out there and more or less recently decided it's better to work with each other than to fight each other. This is a bit of lore that has built up in the game and you can change companies too but it's a huge grind to max them out again. Now if you managed to do them all to max then you gained all their trust and can switch easily with you ranks intact.
I had the exact same Idea about the defection thing and having to earn the trust of your new faction, but with more than one scenario. Ascenario to either make you need to defect by accidentally killing someone or seeing something you shouldn't have, or disolusionment, getting sent on a mission you don't agree with. Next scenario, escaping to the other side, last scenario earning the trust of new faction, they don't need to be strong but rally narrative focused.
Faction swap for races/characters is not going to work. It's better to just let players associate freely. I think factions can and should exist as aesthetic choices, but not as a restruction. If orcs and humans can cooperate in the argent dawn they can cooperate in my raiding roster. I shouldnt have to kill anduin to play with horde players, only to cut off alliance players at the same time. That doesnt solve the problem and just kills the alliance as a player faction full stop. It will simply foce all alliance players to betray their faction of choise just so they can raid, which is not a solution.
Covenant could have been the new factions…. any race, any class, pick where you want to go. Each of the 4 have. A specific standing or ideology based off most current events.
These are the ideas I had myself although I didn't think about being able to faction swap as a guild. At worst they should remove races being tied to a faction. I love Dwarves but I can't really play them
There is no way they would put in the effort to redesign it, but WoW would have been so much better with 3 factions. There would be Horde, Alliance, and some form of independent faction. More room for storytelling options and meaningful player choice. And PvP is so much better with 3 factions than 2, since if one faction gets too powerful the other 2 can team up against them. Not that I care much about PvP but even random BGs could be more fun. Of course it could also end up like FFXIV PvP where I'm team C with the lowest score, and Team B is fighting my team instead of Team A who's winning.
Or better still stay as you are because you think both factions stink.
Honestly about faction choice was mainly cause the friends got me started were ally, and I wanted to play with my friends.
Absolutely 100% agree, like you said preserves faction purity! I can already hear people complaining "it takes 30 minutes to faction swap before raid/dungeon as people min/max racials" . These people can go away, this is an incredible idea we need!
Eso kinda does this
i just want to be part of the ebon blade and no other organization (on my main DK)
I disagree, actually. If we have a new wow, we have to move on from the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance. I think it looks like a battle between good and evil, and that scenario is over; I think the wow gives us an example of what we will have in the next wow; we have 4 factions in the shadowlands, right?
So I think at the first step, it would be possible that titan Azeroth got killed at the end of 9.2, so there will create an opportunity because we all basically connect to the Azeroth, so when there will be nothing in common, we have to pick a force among all 6 or 7 forces, so there will be vast and massive different storylines, talents, skills, abilities and etc. Also, it makes it easy a swap faction thing that you pointed it. So we can see different factions include different forces; for example, it would be a fight between life and death, so other forces based on their interest join them then in subsequent patches or expansions, these groups can turn to different ones, so next time maybe you see death along with life against the order. Also, it would help the developers create new races that aren't basically enemies like the Nathrezims, so problem solved u can be a nathrezim. It's not a natural enemy anymore.
Considering how often the 'war' gets derailed or stopped so that the Alliance and Horde can work together to beat a bigger threat, it really doesn't make sense anymore for them to just immediately start fighting again. They KNOW there's worse out there coming for them. So it makes sense from a strategic point of view to work together to prepare for the next threat. PVP can be like in FFXIV, war games.
I don't have any idea what value a horde has though….. what does it even mean anymore? It serves no purpose. My forsaken mage would not be in a horde. My orc shaman would not be in a horde. My blood elf paladin would not be in a horde. My tauren druid would not be in a horde. My blood elf demon hunter would not be in a horde. My goblin warrior would not be in a horde. My troll death knight would not be in a horde. My nightborne hunter would not be in a horde. None of the lore for any of my characters that are supposedly considered horde actually allows for violating their principles to join a horde. What they hate is a horde. Basically, if they were allowed to follow their individual stories as presented by the quests in vanilla onward up until the replacement devs fucked up the story….. they would all be considering joining the alliance that follows the same principles they do.
Meanwhile, my alliance characters wouldn't ever make sense wanting to join any horde…. unless they wanted to genocide their own friends and families and neighbors. And that's not who any of my characters are based on the quests.
