“How do you communicate in World of Warcraft these days?” In this episode of Talking WoW, we take a look back at the early days of the game, exploring how we made connections, the demise of Guild Chat, and how much things have changed in the current age.

Your awesome and awesome video be safe out there big fan of world of warcaf
I miss the days of guild chat so much. Granted, my guild is mostly dead as there are so few of us left. However, I just hate the idea that I feel I have to join yet another discord channel nowadays. I REALLY dislike using Discord. It's just a chaotic mess and I don't want to have to keep tabbing between windows. I appreciate the ability to have voice channels but there's just too much stuff going on nowadays and there is no real "set" standard for casual chat among friends and guildies if you don't want to physically chat with your voice.
Exploring other servers to try to find a 'home away from home', it's always Discord this, Discord that, DISCORD DISCORD DISCORD and they all feel so impersonal and it makes me feel like there's no place for a smaller focus on building a rapport with fellow players. It's literally all or nothing.
Stopped listening after you said Argent Dawn.
I had a fun group do TW Skyreach this week I feel like I broke the ice by starting off the dungeon with "birds.
Birds.
Birds." As 3 separate messages
world of warcraft was a social mmorpg where you explored the WORLD. now more a singel player with a multiplayer option for getting better gear. sad to say but our demands on fly mounts really helped to kill the world, you could easily see that when they added it, you don't run in to people
Wow Interaction
Me: Hey, you seem to be killing the same things for a quest, want to group?
Other Player: GO FU""" YOURSELF<> I DONT APRTY WIT FKIN NOOBZ.
Me: Alrght.
Social interactions peaked in WoW in 2004s Barrens Chat
My $0.02
In the peak of WoW, I played every class.
I could be DONE for the week on my main, then play on an alt, and repeat.
This means when a guildie came on voice and said, "I still need my 5 heroics" or whatever, I could drop what I was doing and go on an alt that still needed that, or get on my main or whatever. I was doing what I WANTED to do, not what I NEEDED to do.
I think the focus on designing SO MUCH to do and it all progresses player power in some way means everyone has their checklist of "need to finish" things which sends everyone in different directions, so even when you have guildies online, most of you are working on completely different things. This means even 5 man content is run in finder more often than in guild.
At least, this is what I've experienced ever since MoP when we had so many faction reps, tokens, etc to farm and it's only gotten worse since.
very good thank you guys been playing Burning Crusade I do feel like a lot as change some good some bad things seem somewhat harder in questing, I'm handed gamer my left side does not work at all, so I'm stuck to doing some stuff.
Whenever I log into WoW nowadays, I am a bit sad how the chat almost only consists of LFG, spamming of offers etc. Back when I began playing MMORPGs, I enjoyed just going up to strangers for asking for help with a quest or something a lot. I didn’t play WoW back then, only Fiesta Online, Last Chaos, Runes of Magic and lots of others. Back then it was a world to be explored and nowadays it’s just some story, probably interesting and often not mysterious or greatly engaging a lot at all, and some news collectibles, that’s it. At least that’s how I experience it. All the fragmentation with all the Classic, Cataclysm etc. professions and the levelling process with the Chromie timeline thing is just so dissatisfying. The one big reason I keep playing retail is the beautiful and great world design. It’s not really the creepy, mysterious and wondrous World of actual Warcraft back in Classic times. But all this opinion is based on me never having played in an actually socially active guild, in Raids etc. Everyone you see is just some stranger you don’t really have to care about, it’s a bit sad. I’m happy to see someone disagreeing with or telling me about an approach to retail that would change my mind on this. 😀
