Shadowlands – EYES ON 9.2: Is Balance Balance….d?
Today we have another in depth look at one of the Specs in preparation of Patch 9.2, after going through a couple of Healers and one Melee DPS, it is now time for our first Ranged DPS.
The questions stay the same: How does the Spec play?
How does it differ, if any, between Mythic+ and Raiding?
What are the options, variety and diversity in your choices when playing Balance?
How good is it looking now but more importantly, how good does it look in 9.2?

  1. I've been balance main this whole expansion and I personally do not enjoy vanthyr play style at all. It does feel good when you pull off that big crazy bust sure but your basically doing tank dps for 70% of a fight and then you need to make up for all your over all damage in 30% of the fight and if you happen to get picked for a mechanic during it or need to do anything but mindlessly doing your big ass 40 second long combo then your fcked for what you bring to the encounter. In M+ if you have a tank willing to perfectly pull around your cool downs and no one else eating all of the pie you can end a key doing 12k+ dps or you can have a group that pulls without you as the main focus of the key and only do 7k. I really hope we get a change and have more options because balance really is a lot of fun with all your utility.

  2. Mèh, what a fuckin shame. I love venthyr Boomie, and if you play with a team and the tank pulls around your CDs then it's so fuckin useful. But only on 24's and higher keys mobs live the entirety of your CDs. Kyrian Boomie is gonna be significantly weaker and probably just gonna get into keys to buff someone else kekw. Time to go resto main. Also it's just bullshit to nerf it cause it's not broken at all having a huge damage every 3 mins and if you think it is, you've never done an high key with a windwalker, now that's truly fuckin broken but blizzard sucks and they ain't nerfing it. I've had someone telling me that they nerfing boomie because of raid but like.. what if someone doesn't give a fuckin fuck about raids, what if I'm only interested in pushing keys? The difference is massive between the two contents and nerfing boomie cause it's slightly more performing in raids when in keys it's basically balanced with other classes and it's not broken at all I mean, it's just sad

  3. A someone who is stuck playing Boomkin this expansion, I came to a realization, this is probably the only class I'll always feel like I need to bring to the raid, but never a M+. The bursty nature of the class means, that when I'm not preparing to launch a tactical blood frenzy nuke, I am a prime volunteer to do mechanics. Having extra speed and tankiness also helps. And you know what? I don't mind. I'd rather do it, than leave it to someone who is going to screw it up and f- the raid in the process.

In M+ however, this playstyle is simply unsatisfying. You always wait for that next big pull or the boss, wondering why the tank is above you on the DPS meter.

In 9.2 I'm probably be swinging between Venthyr and Night Fae, depending on the content/bosses… so pretty much the same stuff I was doing in 9.1.5

While I'd love to get Celestial + Pulsar One Minute Wonder, in some scenarios, the randomness of Convoke made it a highly unfavourable choice (Ner'zhul in Sanctum, Council in Castle). Lack of control over the target priority made it sometimes a hassle in M+ too.

On the other hand, the undeniable advantage of Convoke the Spirits over Frenzy is the delivery timer. While you worked around Convoke with other spells, especially on pull, in high movement fights – like Painsmith, the delivery of Frenzy had to be precisely timed, or you'd waste it dodging balls, spikes or nooblets with chains. Once you're committed to the bombing run, you were doing the bombing run damn it! Otherwise, the 3-minute cooldown was wasted.

Last, but not least, jumping out of Boomkin Form and using Resto Affinity + Heart + Convoke has some "oh shit" potential in hard situations. I love having that flexibility baked into my class.

I am yet to test Kyrian covenant, I might take some time pre-9.2 to figure it out… but frankly, as someone who never intended to play Boomkin as a main, this became an expansion-long trip.

It also became a guild meme, as I was trying to shift away from Boomkin 3 times already, always coming back to it.

  4. In mythic raiding 1 minute cooldown rotation is incredibly strong because most mechanics seems to line up with it or we adjust our damage so we force then to line up. That is why Fire Mage was so strong in Castle Nathria. Granted we might see some boss that needs a huge burst phase, where you will have 10 Moonkins absolutely demolish it in the race to world first. Having this type of diversity is absolutely broken for a class, that at the same time has utility and does amazing damage on average. I do feel they might not be the top DPS next tier, much like they aren't this tier. But they might be the best dps again.

I do wonder if they mean to keep Balance at the top again, it's a weird way to do things, I don't mind anymore as I don't do progress raiding, but if they don't they should say it and tune it right away and not nerf it a week before progress. Having a spec being this dominating for a whole expansion is a bit rough. And you at some point people will complain so much, that Blizz will nerf it to ground so hard it will see no play for a while next expansion. Or then they really have a dart board on what is going to be FotM each expansion. Last expansion it was first Warlocks, then Fire Mage. Guessing have to use the coin flip next expansion to see if it's Warlock or Mage dominating again.

  5. Alright this is driving me nuts. What addon is that boomy using to get the old damage text back? I've tried them all, none look like his. Izen, do you know?

  6. Balance has always been strong as fuck, they never had a tier during which they were in the lower 50% bracket, and most of the time in the top5-6 if not leading them.

Meanwhile Ferals looking back are bottom-tier since literally years and multiple expansions, especially looking at 99-Max at pro-level.

I hope Balance Druids get crushed into the dust

Also also Blizzard: Give boomy this new legendary, it's not too powerful, and we did just nerf them so it's all good!
Boomies: o.O, SHHH don't say anything!
    Aff lock's: WTF?

  8. The Best in raid but one of the worse in m+ among all dps classes.
Only Slightly better than pally and dk.
To anyone who considers boomie is strong in m+, do higher keys then we can talk. Lol.

  10. As a main balance druid, I can safely say this has been one of the best times to be druid. Loved the 9.0 NF and BOAT gameplay then came the nerf to our AOE (still not understand) and everyone switched to Venthyr which I don't like but I've run either as bear or as NF with Arcanic Pulsar for all 9.1.

And now you tell me I can go either, venthyr, Kyrian or Nf again?? I love this, so many options and fun gameplay

  11. I don't see either Venthyr or Kyrian as the better option going into 9.2, people have been raving about venthyr all along this current patch, and yet i still see fae out dmging venthyr daily. So i'm not sure what the fuzz is all about.

  12. at 10:40 i want to add something on some situations you play them after each other but most of the time you are able to use your IQD with bl so its duration gets increased from 20 soo 25s and your bell gives 9s stats (9.2 version 12 or 15s with less stats). so you get short before the IQD burst ends you get 5s double trinket burst, after that 4s the bell and after that sinful is about to fall off you lose the 2nd trinket.

pretty nice but "sadly" you havent got 2 trinkets + peak from sinful but the burst is OP enough i guess – im a feral i have to kinda hate boomies xD

tbh the opener is hard to learn, like the nf one. i tried nf one and thought yeah thats cool, you need more skill to get used to it fast but in m+ i dont like to play it. to clunky. boomkin feels wrong there

  13. Your video is wrong. Boomie in m+ doesn’t always moonfire and the order in which you do things depends on your current/next eclipse. Your aoe changes considerably depending on eclipse, target count, and pack duration. You also ignored the timing required with trinkets, pot, berserking, and fury of elune in your cd window and instead show a rotation of 3 wraths and a surge. I would absolutely destroy you on the meters.
