There was so much time between raid tiers in WOD. I was able to prog mythic with one group, take some time off. Then re-prog the same raid with a completely new group. Then take another break before the next content patch came out.

Blizzard merged with Activision before cata and during wod boby wanted wow expansions every year like cod. Blizzard couldn't meet that pace.
Legion was supposed to be ready after 1 year of wod, so wod had a ton of cut content leading to a 1 year gap.
Boby / Activision push for profit has really rotted out both companies.
