Capitalism has invaded too many IPs and it does not promote creativity or community growth. They milk it till it’s gone and they can ruin the next thing with greed. Star Wars, blizzard .. they are disconnected from what people want and are just banking on the name to carry shitty content
Blizzard don't respect our time in game play and story telling. Story is meant so us the person looking in knows stuff the NPC's don't know so the pay off is it all playing out and the interactions but Blizzard have it the other way round. The NPC's know stuff we don't and the pay off is finally knowing some stuff they know. The lore is so boring to follow that a new cinematics are a fingers crossed that we actually get a straight forward explanation that ties up the lose ends within its self instead of adding more constantly.
Jerks will be jerks no matter what. I've read comments in mmo champion, the forums e.t.c.. from people who behave as if WoW is their entire life. They want to be "special" and the "casuals" ruin that for them, they shit on people who just want to have fun playing the game and don't care about theorycrafting, min/max, sim and all these extra details.
Last week I went in Tazavesh for the first time. I had only watched the online guide. Among our group, only the tank and one dps had been there before. The third dps and the healer had no idea how the fights work and they told me they prefer to discover the fight mechanics themselves or via their group mates. The tank and the dps left after two wipes. We found new ones and guess what. We completed the dungeon. We had fun, no anger, no toxicity. Simple as that.
Those who become angry in WoW and they are jerks to others can't blame the game. They will be angry and jerks to people in their real life too. If the game promoted toxicity, all of us would become toxic.
Right now, WoW can accomodate all levels of players. Casuals can do heroics, LFR/normal raiding, world Qs. More hardcore players can do higher mythic keys, mythic raiding e.t.c..
The price of WoW subscription has nothing to do with that. If we say "15$/month is too much for the content we get" then Blizzard can easily raise the price when they give us more and better content. We had the same subscription in both the good and bad times of WoW.
The game is made to be toxic.
M+ is a prime example, hard content that requires every member to play right, if you dont you lose your key and get a lower dungeon, that shit will be always toxic.
Ever been in a LFR? In such a group can you find all the negative traits of humanity.
I quit buying game time after blizzard law stuff but still play wow because know there people want game do good of game coummity also developer did not do sh angry at co workers I play game on free trail account for that
Social games and competitive games doesnt match at all, you gotta chose one or the other.
It’s not apparent to me that WoW players are more or less toxic now than when I started in 2008.
But if it is, and it comes from the top (leaders in the company and disrespect from Blizzard itself) I have a feeling it’s going to get better.
Hot take; Bobby is cleaning house at blizzard and it’s going to start getting better when he’s done.
The first step into toxicity was crossservers. As you were known on your server you was dependent from your reputation to get invitated f.e. into an HC dungeons back in BC. Next step was the lfg tool, your reputation doesn't matter any more. Than they forced it into crossrealms an the concept of communitys nowadays. Even a guild makes no sense anymore. Than the m+ bs, where leavers weren't punished. All this builds a toxic community.
Your outlook is way off. Your take on things exonerates everyone from personal responsibility. Blizzard has nothing to do with this. Most people are assholes. It's just the way it is and trying to blame Blizzard for this is just ridiculous. As for the way things are at Blizzard, they act like the are beyond reproach. They feel that they can do whatever they want because they have been on top of the business for years and they know it. Now it's back to bite them on the ass.
actually the reason is a lot more simple though. All the nice players left and went to FF14 while all the angry toxic ones remained in WoW. And with a smaller player pool, you just encounter those toxic bastards waaaaaay more often
I think it has to do with alot of the good people leaving and having the bad apples promoted to higher positions.
Right all the times I have been called a N g er after people hear my accent is because people are mad at Blizz. Makes complete sense now.
I think the biggest problem is the people who conflate giving someone Kindness and Courtesy (the Decency you mentioned) with giving someone Respect.
when a game is designed in such a way that you are essentially bred into the notion that every other player is an obstacle to your progression or an adversary to be vanquished… its going to get horribly "toxic" and negative.
The most recent example I can recall is when I queued for Plaguefall and while I was loading in the others started going towards the first boss, by the time I loaded in they started the boss thusly I could not mount up, by the time I got there their dps managed to kill the boss before I could get in range and get credit thusly missing out on being able to complete the Maldraxxus calling by 25% I simply responded didn't get credit for it, and the DK in the group was surprisingly toxic about it, shocked me tbh after I caught up we blew threw the rest of the dungeon but it surprised me, before the exodus I usually just ran into pleasant players, now its just the indifferent or toxic ones remaining…
There's two acceptable answers to this question. A) Because the players are in fact toxic. B) Blizzard refuses to moderate or regulate it's game.
The people who deserve the most respect in blizzard are those who are heart of the Blizzard Cog, without them the hierarchy would be nothing.
Those brave enough to stand up to them cowards and want to enact change, against those who bully and abuse the staff who hide behind their positions and popularity!!
Uh because shit game, shit developers, shit publishers, shit community. Reject Warcraft. Come to Final Fantasy but please leave the toxicity behind or you can stay right where you are in a dying game. 🙂
becausre the ffing game sucks and they pay premium for a game that is NOT supprted the right way. why can some game studios just keep their costumer s happy with alot of content when the Biggest game studio with 3000 devs incapable of keep the game fresh with things to do?. its real sad.
Nietzsche believed that the concepts of good and evil contribute to an unhealthy view of life which judges relief from suffering as more valuable than creative self-expression and accomplishment. For this reason Nietzsche asserted that we should seek to move beyond judgements of good and evil (Nietzsche 1886 and 1887). In a rejection of the Judeo-Christian morality, Nietzsche addresses this in two works, Beyond Good and Evil and On the Genealogy of Morals, where he essentially says that the natural functional non-good has been socially transformed into the religious concept of evil by the slave mentality of the weak and oppressed masses who resent their masters (the strong). He also makes a critique of morality by saying that many who consider themselves to be moral are simply acting from cowardice (wanting to do evil but scared of the repercussions).
There are a great mixture of things happening within the community. On top of our time and efforts not being respected, having to do a great deal of content outside of the content we enjoy to stay effective, removing the ability to share gear with our team, lack of communication from the dev teams, the slow downfall of guilds, confusing systems that are hard to keep up with, etc… they've made the game a selfish grind to the top and not a community effort to accomplish your goals. It's easier to be selfish, find others that are selfish, and win than develop a group of people that you trust and are able to understand your strengths and your flaws.
Really?! We're asking this question now?
If people are honest about it WOW has been toxic for over a decade as have most MMOs. Very few games have a decent community.
Children (before 7) show actually very much affection and empathy towards animals. There are interesting studies around this topic, so at some point they had to choose who needed to be saved from a burning house, the keeper or the twenty dogs, cats and bunnies inside – and most of them chose the animals over one human beeing. 😉
That being said, the growing toxicity has several reasons, not only one. One is clearly the competitive part in which multiple people get punished for one simple mistake in mythic+, and the use of external tools like raider io is to minimalize this outcome, which leads to an elitist behaviour on the other hand. What's that a game where you are not allowed making mistakes? It has nothing to do with fun anymore – it's e-sports.
And don't forget that for every player there's a human beeing in front of the monitor, so you cannot really seperate gaming- and real-life-behaviour. People get angry very quickly for little reasons and the anonymity of the internet makes it even worse to verbalise their opinions in an unfriendly way.
Finally you made a point with the issue of respect/ disrespect, which I 100% agree with. Many people in WoW are unsatisfied and they do not even know, why. Others feel betrayed and disrespected and lied to over and over again.
But even now there are "fans" who are withe-knighting everything Blizz says or does and someone who does not understand the story is simply too stupid for this masterpiece of art. 🤔
The path to evil is paved with good intentions
WoW is Toxic because they have allowed it to be Toxic for years, and that is because the original dev team was a group of major assholes, give assholes money and power and this is the end result every time.
Oh, you haven't played in world of tanks. Toxicity in world of warcraft is nothing compared to other games
Been playing ffixv for 2 months now, and as a comparison you only have to log into each game and then look at general chat, WoW chat = filled with gold sellers and ppl arguing with each other’s, ffixv chat = real conversations.
That’s what shocked me
It's just that online gaming now is not new, people have lost their sensitivity, and they just use games as their emotional dumping ground because they can avoid backlash because they are faceless.
I do think it is all over internet not only in WoW. It is like fashion to be toxic, if ur not toxic than u start getting trolled or something.
Being polite is not hard, Im always trying to be polite and help others some times to I go so much out of my way that people ask me why im going trough all the trouble to help them and do i want gold or something. My answer is no i dont need anything just when u see someone that need help go and help him, spread that good vibe. If u see someone spamming for group to long lf help with elite or smth leave ur freaking mining route or what ever and go help that guy.
In classic I got to lead PvP brackets although I didnt want to and at one point I got pm from guy from one of dying servers If I could go and help them pool boost so I did, with few of friends pvpers we went to that other realm and spent few hours of our lives pool boosting. Now who ever did pool boost in classic knows how boring that shiet is and people were asking me why, why u do that, they couldnt believe Im not getting anything from it, just satisfaction.
And i managed to make our pool boost fun, I would always inv all the members to discord and cheer them up make jokes and people actually started to have fun during, and one community that is being known as toxic, PvP community, become very nice and helpful while I was bracket leader.
We need to start from us, share good vibes, If someone is toxic to us we dont go on next person and spread that negativity.
Being nice is not helping someone that is on ur way but get out of ur way to help…
WoW allows the add ons where some create toxicity, from Gear Score eventually became i-level, now Raider IO is now a part of WoW. Blizzard is not suspending or banning toxic players, while some other games do a better job handling toxic player, like FF14 from what I hear the GMs will react quickly to handle Toxic planets. This is what I feel. I Agree with you that Blizzard disrespect to players helps create toxicity.
Some people just hate their lives so much they reflect their negativity onto others. It’s just as simple as that.
Bro I wouldn’t be worried about not getting any more “beta access”. All you need to do is have an active sub and you’ll get to beta test the current xpac for 2 years!
what did u mean about pyromancer. why is he toxic. blizz has let us down. i played blizz games in preschool. they were not blizz back then. silicone and synapse. they have ruined what we love and grew up with.
The content we were given makes it hard not to be toxic. When you play FF everything feels so relaxing. WoW doubling down on extremely long rep grinds, gated content, sloppy writing, extremely unbalanced PvP, too many character systems, and honestly the longer raids (Yes I know most WoW players are OK with this but it does feed to the toxicity).
I'm kinda sick of the content delays. That's why I have to take a break every so often cuz I get so bored with what's currently available and I don't wanna grind alts cuz I've played all the old content to death to the point that while it's a great game.. I loathe playing the old stuff anymore. I've tried and I just can't do it
Im a new player i play on burning legion and Its good people help me a lot and i dont have any toxic or bad expierience.
a minor source of toxicity? lmao legion toxicity? lmao dont kid yourself it started in classic people been slurring it up since online games
Over the years i have come to the conclusion that fundamentally people are bad at their core, selfish, self entered and violent, i think its only social conditioning as children allows us to perform as a society peacefully. Online annonymity removes the need for social boundaries and therefore human traits thrive. People don't like to see this side of human nature, but there will always be war.
Put two babies in a room with no social conditioning, and put one sweet, they will fight over the sweet they don't share as natural instinct.
I have never seen a human that has large amounts of power and money not suffer corruption people do because they can.
I think if the internet removed anonymity that people would have to conform to social norms again to be seen as a positive part of society. (There are always exceptions of course)
Lifestyle is toxic and the very rot of modern of basic live teach be a little bit a beast – stronger, smarter , faster, have a big balls about your own way and care about others who can give you something. Being a bit more selfish is like – be more successful in your live. So man can try to help other people but sometimes not for them, man can help in a name of his own glory.
I think the 20-21 century got this from a modern Philosophy like Friedrich Nietzsche and his Nihilism, just look closely – it is almost everywhere , just mix with more soft ways of it on top of Christianity(I mean real one) dying corpse
I swear every time I hear your voice I think of a guy I use to raid with back in TBC. He was also from south Africa and all his toons names had Baka in it. Really you should do philosophy videos on games in general. Also should look up generational theory, it is a really good read.
Honestly the toxicity in WoW is not that bad in my experience. When I think of toxic communities LoL comes to mind first.
Refreshing when a WoW Contributor says it the way it is. All these people leaving and they still use kid gloves in their goodbye videos because they are keeping the door open to come back because their simps.
It started to show in WOTLK
People are toxic because they are cowards hiding behind the internet… if people said the things they say to others online to anyone's face.. they would get their asses kicked.. and / or shot (if you live in Chicago). Social media will be(is now) the downfall of society. This is also due to single moms giving their kids a fuking trophy just for showing up, not being good. If you aren't first, you are last.
Thank you for sticking around to cover wow and not run to the latest trend of other just as bad MMOs. The grass is not greener on the other side, its only a different shade of green from the different dogs pissing on the lawn.
