  1. Everyone has their opinion on when the game was ruined but speaking from a narrative perspective the game died during Legion which I think was my top 3 expansions.

    The death of the legion was the last plot thread from the original RTS besides the old gods which they shut down in the least palatable way in BFA

    Now they just include things that make no narrative sense just because it feels right.
    East Asian skins despite the fact that humans never looked that way in decades
    Earthen dwarves joining either faction despite pledging themselves in service to the titans
    Any race any class despite the fact that light bound dranei literally branded themselves in their hatred of demons and yet will now be warlocks
    7ft tall taurens sneaking around with their massive hooves

    Dragon flight opens with that cringe diplomatic meeting filled with marvel tier dialogue meanwhile their eggs are kidnapped with no one responding until we’re forced to crush the whelplings, why are we there? To help with the dwindling dragon population. It’s just stupid

    Not to mention the fact that deathwing supposedly made dragons with every aspect power thousands of years ago and just… forgot. Then failed the second time with his chromatic flight experiments. Why not just get those soldiers he already had?

    The writing broke the world inherently, especially shadowlands. You can’t fix it anymore

  2. idk, really. I played Vanilla -> Cata; got out because accounts were getting hacked left and right, even with 2FA. Made Blizz seem weak and untrustworthy, and most of my friends had quit at that point. But I have a cousin who still plays. The last time I saw him, he got pissed off when I started trash talking WoW. He wasn't allowed to play games as a kid, so when he started playing ~2010ish, he went all in and never slowed down. I expect people who still play WoW suffer from this FOMO/Sunk Cost dilemma where they can't regulate input because they weren't allowed to (or able to) regulate input for so long, and they ascribe deep value to the thing they finally were able to latch onto.

  3. A lot has to do with Nostalgia. People have great memories growing up with WoW in the early 00's. Lots of friends made in guide, tens of thousands of hours spent on the grind, and escapism from everyday life's mundanity. That's all it is. I had no allegiance to Blizzard or WoW, and went through the process to cancel my account and request removal of PII. I do know some people who still play and they couldn't imagine canceling their accounts.

  4. The monetization is the main reason why i don't play wow anymore.
    Second is i don't have the option or a raid schedule. So i would not be able to raid in a guild.

  5. Mists of Pandaria was indeed considered bad for the Pandas, but the worldbuilding was actually very good in Pandaria, and you also had all the interesting Garrosh and Alliance vs Horde development during it.

  6. If you had any clue about sub numbers and activity in retail vs. classic you wouldn't be talking out of your ass that much.
    But feel free to keep rambling over 1 graph that has an entire video about it (which you won't watch because who needs research!?) and 1 picture of a player character.

  7. It's the myopic focus on endgame content and not only not putting any effort into the leveling process but actually going out of their way to gut it and make it easier that killed WOW. What kept WOW so popular for so long was that you would level up a character, do all the end game content and then you would go level up your alts and get to experience it all over again with a new class. It's what kept it fun and fresh. Now with the way the game is you can level a character from 1 to max level in a couple of days.

  8. As a big former wow guy, specifically classic, the biggest reason I stopped playing in official blizz servers is because of the botting and cheating problems.

  9. I still play WoW but I'm just done buying expansions. If I didn't have friends that played WoW I would be unsubscribed because the story isn't fun.
    Edit: I give myself a SINGLE subscription game and that for the longest time has been WoW. It's my guilty pleasure game. I don't think I could ever really get into another MMORPG, nothing really interests me in the MMO space. If I didn't spend money on a WoW sub I wouldn't be spending that money on other games, I buy maybe one game a year. I just don't enjoy modern games all that much, achievements kinda ruined gaming. I also dislike them in WoW, they give a task to do but the task isn't fun.

  10. If you look at the line as someone who has played lots of WoW, you can see that classic was a big success for them and when does it start dropping off a cliff. It was when ppl datamined that WoW token and they announced teh "Dark Portal Pass", demonstrating to players that they fully intended to make classic just as bad a retail. You can only bait and switch so many times and keep getting away with it.

  11. Believe it or not, I've been having a great time playing Hard Core (HC) mode on the Classic WoW servers (even started some Self Found characters for maximum challenge). With only one life, it really changes how you play the game and makes it feel more epic and satisfying when you finally make it to level 60. I haven't played retail since Mists of Panderia back in 2012, however, and don't myself ever trying going back to that. Will HC continue to be fun for me? We will see, but it has rejuvenated the game for me and I heartily recommend it for any old WoW players that still have an itch to play their old favorite….

  12. I've been an on-and-off subscriber since 2005. Poured a substantial proportion of my best years into the damn thing. After the whole debacle with the fruit paintings, and the removal of /spit, it became clear as daylight that it was time to move on. Thanks so much for helping me drop the habit, Blizzard!

  13. Wow is fun. I mosly only do dungeons and raids. But I also like to hunt for cool armor and weapon appearances. The subscriptions are lame, the story is ruined, professions are kinda wack, they sneak woke bs in the game like multiple quests where you help gay couples get each other gifts, but you dont have to do any of that stuff (except for the subscription). Despite some of the lame parts of it, I really enjoy the gameplay and having millions of people to play with. Theres always tons of people doing tons of shit all around you all the time and I guess I like that in a game.

  14. Played WoW from 1.4.1, quit halfway through cataclysm, came back for a few months in pandaria, quit again and returned in late Legion. Loved it, and I liked BfA – played on Moon Guard (US) so role-playing kept it fresh. Shadowland killed my desire to play again. Quit after my guild cleared the first raid in heroic and everything blizzard has done as a company killed any desire to dip my toes back in.

  15. I would love to play as humanoid dragons for characters. D&D has had them for years now. As a furry, I approve. What I don't approve of is Blizzard in general. I quit WoW during cata and told myself I would never look back. Haven't looked back since. I stick with FF14.

  16. The main reasons for WoW been real bad are:
    – the general Blizzard behavior in past years is a testament to why WoW can't be what it was in the early 2000s;
    – the WOKE poo that plagues the Internet and gaming these days;
    – game value (as per consumer) compared to other MMORPG games (Final Fantasy and Guild Wars are superior games to WoW);
    – the sub makes no sense 20 years latter -> you buy expansions and that is ok, but why keep a sub above 5~10 EUR 20 years later?!;
    – removing content out of the game and constantly lowering the overall max level => leads to dullness, boringness, lack of interest -> if a player just came to WoW, he/she can't experience the game with one character (other games offer such basic function);
    – private servers seem to do a lot better and sometimes their subs make more sense (in some cases);
    – the combat is old and boring -> the combat is not fluent enough for today's standards;
    – lack of skills per class -> let's say you like to be a proper an ice mage, but you can't, because you are limited to 6-10 ice skills. In earlier years MMO games offered more than that and the player was able to make a proper character. WoW, in most cases, has 4 decks with more than 10 positions each. Think about it.

  17. Style and lore were originally the strong points of WoW. The gameplay was, well, 90% of quests were: 1) kill 10 creatures. 2) kill one bigger creature. 3) click on 10 sparkly things on the ground.
    Burning Crusade was the best expansion. The difficulty level and story were aimed at mature players. Lich King was a mixed bag: difficulty level clearly aimed at a younger and/or more casual public, more childish story writing in some parts but still good in others. After that, it went downhill.

  18. I thought Dragonflight would be amazing simply because dragons are cool. I'm not a high-fantasy hell-yeah-dragons! kind of guy, but how do you screw up dragons? I didn't know how much of a snoozefest I was in for. They're not dragons, they're deified bureaucrats. Going through WoW expansions, I realized it's 70% dealing with the infestation and invasion problems of some group of nature weirdos, 20% convincing the game to deliver the main plot through irrelevant quests that purport to worldbuild, and 10% actually getting the main story. It's the most streamlined version of an antiquated way of designing a game.

I had some money for some things I’ve sold 3 years ago, I didn’t play dragon edition but every one before that from the beginning, so I had almost enough to buy the new expansion in January basic edition that also has the dragon edition. I played 7 days dragon edition but the magic was gone, and there was so few people playing it, I couldn’t even get my son to play it despite he played dragon edition for 3 months after the beginning of the expansion and he think it’s a waste of money to pay every month and my daughter didn’t have time to play and doesn’t play it anymore

  20. The reason the extra monetization methods were tolerated is because they weren't necessary to partake in. OK, someone got a fancy horse? I had a blue dragon that was a %1 chance to drop in an instance, which that person would never have. It costs money to rename the character? I never ruined my character's reputation so badly that it needed a new name, and I still use some of those character names in other games nearly 20 years later. Costs money to change server? Just re-roll and play a whole other class/character. Level grinding was comparatively easy in that game anyway, if you contrast against any other MMO of the era. I don't care if someone else paid for all of those things anymore than they care that I paid for none of it. At this point though, I think the only reason people still play is because it's been their go-to since 2004 and they just cannot let go. I used to try every expansion just to experience the train wreck in real time but even that is kinda boring.
