World of Warcraft on Apple M1 Pro chip

A brief overview of WoW Shadowlands 9.2 performance on Late 2021 Apple Macbook Pro M1 Pro 16″ 10CPU 16GPU 16GB Ram laptop.

FPS, with given video settings, is pretty much fixed at 120Hz during solo and dungeon content. In crowded capital cities and particle-heavy environments, it starts to drop.

No stutters, input lag or such negative things. Camera pan has an odd lag somehow.

GPU temp doesn’t go over 70 degrees celcius with both fans running at 2500rpm, being audible only at very close proximity. If you play on your lap, you’ll definitely feel warmth of the machine, but definitely not high enough to switch to a desk.

Game sound you hear is coming out from laptop’s own speakers.

If you want to learn something, ask in comments! Note: Don’t ask me FPS in Shadowlands area, because I don’t own the latest expansion pack!

  1. Why not play at a lower resolution with higher settings? 1080p is more than enough for a 14" screen, it would be a better tradeoff to have higher quality effects etc. than 4k resolution with low settings

  2. Hi, I just bought a MacBook Pro and downloaded the game. It was going very smoothly until I downloaded TotalRP add-on. afterwards it kept crashing every time I tried to make changes on the add-on. Are you using any add-ons and did you experience any crashes so far? Thanks!

  3. Everyone's going to be thinking about the graphics but also look how fast the SSD took care of that loading screen at 0:11. It very quickly loads new zones and game chunks. M1 Pro / Max is a beast. I got the 14" model with M1 Pro and 16GB RAM and it feels like I'm on a 'gaming laptop' just due to how well optimized this one particular game is. Blizz used the Apple Metal API to make everything feel native, because it is!

  4. I play at 6 on an air 8-core gpu in instances too at 40/60fps at 2k res. I lower it at 4 only for raid. And I only putted a thermal pad which anyway dissipate always less than fans over time

  5. Graphics 10. Shadows, liquid and view distance low leave the rest. That’s the real test since you can hit the 120hz fine and still looks top tier. At that point you run into an issue or raiding simply lower resolution rendering as you have and it’s straight
