No add-ons and no guides seems like the best way to really explore and have fun with it IMHO. Interesting video. Thanks for sharing.
It's been a blast hunting down the different Runes and noticing things like old Rare mobs in semi-random places now being Rare Elites instead.
I DO have one MAJOR critique however:
!!SPOILER!!
Metamorphosis, the Tank Rune, which a TON of the marketing and hyping was built around, and many guilds set up thier 10-man teams around, requires you to clear most of the BFD Raid to unlock it. No other role-defining Rune was locked this way, meaning that while cool, has effectively softlocked a toooon of people. Quite a massive oversight imo.
You mention item drop timers and players forming lines or having to go to SW to learn swords and all I do is cringe at what is just the horrible game design of classic.
Also the reason people want mmos to be soloable is because some of us understand not all our friends are on all the time, we like to be social, but also sometimes we wanna be alone in a world we know is large and populated
I’m diggin it.
I wonder if it will be like Diablo where there are multiple seasons? Where your that will go to an ‘eternal’ like realm.
I've really enjoyed SoD so far, I am leveling an orc hunter solo and a Tauren shaman with a friend, I am not going in completely blind without add ons but also not meta gaming everything and putting in effort into discovering things myself. Or at least learning through natural in game communication rather than an online guide. I think it's fine to look things up, especially if you are interested in some of the new play styles locked behind particular runes (such as mage healer) but its fun to figure out stuff on your own as well.
Dude, play with the voice over mod. It's amazing.
the reason people want to play solo is because participating in a shared living world is unique to mmos and many of the games can be enjoyed just fine without forced grouping. the idea that people should be forced to group is dumb and needs to go away because if grouping is fun you dont need to force people to do it.
that said when you play an mmo youre technically never playing alone, the other people are there.
Despite everything, the community experience has been worth it alone.
WoW is one confusing mmo. You got classic, hardcore and season, none of which adds any value to the retail version. It's all a separate version of it's own. How did this mmo made it's player prefer to play it's older iterations instead of looking forward to the future expansion..
I've liked it so far and taken it incredibly chill. Though the one rune you get as warlock at the start is a huge deal. It makes the first levels of lock go from total ordeal to pretty ez.
You briefly stumbled on why modern mmos are going to fail. Modern gamers dont seem to enjoy the moment. The memories formed from forming up a geoup and embracing, overcoming a challenge simply for fun of it. The emotions tied to that experience create the stongest memories. Modern gamers like asmongold….rush rish rush, go go go. Are they even playing a game? Gimmie my reward now for as little effort possible.
