World of Warcraft Shadowlands Launch Party – Old Man Rurikhan Edition

Rurikhan returns to his roots and plays World of Warcraft Shadowlands on Launch Day. My main for this expansion will most likely be a Dark Iron Dwarf Paladin (unless Blizzard fixes Warriors, but we all know that’s never going to happen).

  1. Some shower-thoughts on the lore:

    *Observations:*
    1) We observe that souls do not 'naturally' move to the shadowlands from their original planet / dimension upon death; they must be collected by a Bastion-Kyrian or Maw-Kyrian at some point after physical death.
    2) We observe that Bastion is of limited geographical size and Kyrians are created via transformation of souls of other species via something like indoctrination. But this transformation takes time and is not 100% successful. Moreover, this transformation is conducted by existing Kyrians and constructs presumably built by existing Kyrians.

    *Inferences*
    1) There are a limited number of Kyrians in existence. They are created at some finite rate which is limited by the number of existing Kyrians, the speed at which they can move through the indoctrination program, and the % success rate.
    2) If souls can only be brought to the Shadowlands by Kyrians, either Bastion or Maw-aligned, the number of Kyrians being limited means the rate at which souls can enter the Shadowlands is limited too.
    3) If all Kyrians were to be killed, then no additional Kyrians could be created, and no souls could enter the Shadowlands at all.

    *Meta-inferences*
The fact that entry into the Shadowlands is not a natural process of the soul but mediated by Kyrians suggests that this is not a natural system, but a constructed one. It is a much larger system, but in fundamental principle no different from the Lich King's Ymirheim scam, wherein from the position of a Vrykul observer, appeared to be a 'real' afterlife system because the dead were transported to Ymirheim by Val'kyr.

    *Theory Time*
This is not an actual afterlife but a world which at some point in the past developed magitek to turn souls into a power source (which would would not even be a unique magitek, having been independently developed by the Legion and the Mogu as well) and magitek to harvest souls from other worlds.

  2. Zone questlines are never that intense, even in Legion where you had hellfire raining down from the skies, they usually start with something important, slow down for a bit, let you do some side quests, explore the zone if you want, do whatever, and then pick back up. Personally I am really happy thus far but ofc havent made it into the endgame, Torghast etc which is gonna determine a lot of the expansion. But thus far (I am in Maldraxxus btw) I am happy. Been a smooth launch for most people as well from what it looks like thats cool.
