Blizzard just bought out a full studio, closed their live game (which was failing anyway), and set them all to work on World of Warcraft. Pour one out for Spellbreak, but this might genuinely save Blizzard’s most important franchise.

Asheron's Call devs are now working on WOW? wtf
I won't touch anymore Blizzard stuff out of principal. At least, not until the culture has changed.
Won't make a difference. You can only have so many people working on a project. The rest become redundant and actually slow things down. The real issues are with the ones making the decisions that the slave workers have to follow. Ion needs to be dropped. His vision is all wrong. He wants WoW to be a game instead of an experience. Ion wants WoW to be this sweaty competitive thing where everything is gamified. The strength of WoW is working together with other players and going on a grand adventure. AKA digital D&D. Classic era is so good because its a social adventure.
Passion creates games, not money or companies' strategic decisions. Those things can follow and support it. The real question is how excited are the new devs to be creating their own vision… Is joining Blizzard and working on WoW their dream come true or did they choose a reliable income over continuing to make their own games like Spellbreak?
You can see the end of expansion delusions set in. Whenever a new expansion is revealed, people start pumping copium directly into their veins. New developers under same leadership will only serve to move the game faster down the wrong path. Wake me when they make a new MMORPG in a modern engine and I might check it out.
If Activision Blizzard absorbs another company, I consider that company doomed, not the other way around.
If I was told to work on WoW from being a developer from another game company, I’d definitely would quit my job. As a gamer, I will never touch WoW or any other Blizzard game. They look just like garbage.
When the "massive move" is to grab the developer of a meh battle royale who is infamous for pretty much abandoning their game, you know it's not gonna get better.
Bellular, seriously, get therapy, get some help. This gigantic obsession with Blizzard and desperately trying to pretend they'll EVER change is honestly making me concerned for you.
I went to Dota2 from WoW PVP there isnt really anything out there that scratches the itch ngl… Spellbreak was fun, but it def wasnt a substitute for PVP back in Cata, and early MoP
With the exception of the incredibly dated Asheron's Call, these developers are also known for making FTP games that are laden with microtransactions. It's also much too late for these developers to have any kind of influence on Dragonflight. Taking this into account, I think they've been hired to either create a microtransaction system within the game that won't cause a riot or to transform the game into FTP with restricting systems and microtransactions.
IMO the game was held back by doing EGS first, by the time it hit steam it's just another game you heard about that's probably too late to play.
Cause far as I could tell they did the marketing right.
You can have all the best devs in the universe if you still put a dickhead above them who makes stupid decisions you're going to be making trash anyway.
I do hope that Proletariat does help WoW to recover. I do hope that more people start playing it again, and get it back on track. I've never played WoW, and may never because no one around me does, but having one of the long-time pillars of the MMO recover from its downward spiral can only be good for players of its rivals, if for no reason than to ensure they never rest on their laurels. After all, healthy competition between competing games can only be good for the players.
the clickbait titles are starting to put me off your videos
I have heard good sounds prior to each expansion for at least 2 years. I need to see good things.
Spellbreak is pretty cool but it lacks some game modes beside the battle royale and to really shine. Put in some team maps (points capture, FFA) and expand the elemental gauntlets to have a couple of support-oriented ones and it would be a blast.
Real shame about Spellbreak. I stopped playing it cause no updates in over a year and huge queue times.
They are selling off their warcraft IP? Cause thats the only way it will he saved.
We need mmo developers to understand that we have all gotten older and have jobs and cannot play 8hrs a day we need to be able to keep at the end game lvl and not have to work so damn hard to obtain that so we can enjoy the raids or pvp that we all enjoy but we don't need such a grind to be able to do the end game content
This news is horrible. The more money they spend on this game, they more they expect to see as return, the people who are going to suffer are the players. They will be the ones footing the bill. One of the more recent changes to the AH is to encourage spending on WOW tokens. They are making more and more steps to push players into becoming payers.
to bad I never heard of spellbreak. It kinda looks like a fun game. And now that I do know it, I'm sad it will probably be a dead game soon.
31:13 most true statement I heard in this video… we truly do get so little for such a passionate player base in the game.
Spellbreak combat was amazing, but it was hampered by the fact that it was a BR for most of its life.
I'm somewhat pissed to see a good game 'sacrificed' for the sake of a formerly good game. It brings to mind the thought of bailing from a sinking ship to one that's on fire.
Granted, I used to love WoW, and maybe I can again in the future, but I'm dubious, at best. I find it hard to be optimistic about WoW, and Blizz will have to go above and beyond to convince me that I SHOULD be. Maybe this will be one of many moves that will help bring me back, but I honestly have no idea if that will happen.
"I played one game and I won it". Everyone wins their first game, they put you against bots, lol.
Maybe no one reads this, probably, anyway…
YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY BOTHERS ME ABOUT WOW?
I loved it, back in the days when I was a kid, but nowadays I honestly think its the best looking MMO on the market! Everything is very very beautifully hand drawn, all the vfx is great and I would love to play and enjoy it. BUT I've no clue whats happening in the game, I dont understand the systems, I dont understand the story in the slightest, I log in and and stand in Orgrimmar and wonder what the fuck I should do. I feel like I would need a coach to play the game, someone who teaches me to play again, and thats just dumb game design.
I just don't think this is going to be enough for people like me to come back
it's well beyond time to fire some people at the top, so blizzard hires more people for the bottom. they'll remain doomed to fail until leadership changes.
They bought another talented team and are consuming/assimilating them into Blizzard (which was consumed/assimilated by Activision). And how is this going to be any different? What has changed that will keep a buffer that allows them to work more hands-off than Blizzard teams previously? It just seems that WoW diehards want to believe in that magic wand that can be found and waved.
"the proletariat" ? really?
well then i'll name my gaming comany "the reich". wHaaaT?? iT jUst mEAns realm iN geRmAn. O~o
need make wow free to play
I hope WOW gets it's realm reborn kind of thing
Bain was so F-ing cool and they shit on him. You could do so much with a totem welding Minotaur. Absolutely Pathetic
Typical, throwing money at the problem… but not willing to risk profits to fix problem…. Not gonna work…
You can't save a game that is already going to the gutter. In the current state the only thing they can do is salvage what is left of it. I've already had the opportunity to work for a few large corporations and i can tell you that what they will try to do is just refresh the content by adding some fresh people (maybe a few teams) but at the end of it its Blizzard's greed that is destroying the franchise long term and that will not change since the general direction is towards making more money. No new team will change that, no matter how good they are at prettying the gameplay or game design.
it's too late to save wow. I know a bunch of kids will run back to be a dragon mage… I bet money, the game won't be any better than Shadowlands. But, people will throw money at blizzard for this next expansion. and then they will quit within 60 days.
Thank you, Michael and Matt.
