Im born in 1982 and as soon as i saw 20 Seconds of Plunderstorm in Gingis Stream, i hated it with every Cell of my Body and i will never play a single Second of this stupid-ass "Kids/Handy/3Buttons/Gamemode". Great Podcast btw.
Loved the longer discussion! Dorki tried so hard to get Max on the right track in the add on discussion. The real elephant in the room is in-combat add ons, nobody is out here crying about UI and cosmetic mods ruining the game. I would love to hear Max actually dig into that topic a bit and not just handwave it away "everyone knows combat add ons are bad".
If add on regulation was working why are private auras a total mess?
Whenever there is a season of discovery, plunderstorm, wow classic I don't hate them for existing but as a retail player I would be lying to say I am happy to see other game modes that I am not interested in. Plunderstorm is great for content creators and I am sure that is why they embraced it. They get to play something new which will bring in people, its very casual so they can talk to chat while playing, they can make guides or videos about the "controversy", etc. They are profiting hugely off of the patch so its hard to take what they say seriously. For us players that were hoping for new content or start of season 4 at least the wait continues. After being excited for a new mystery patch last week I logged in played plunder storm a bit, noped out of there, did the raid, did some weekly quests then didn't play until tuesday this week. Its good that I had free time to get IRL shit done but how often can you say in a patch week I was a really productive human? Plunderstorm should have dropped as its own seperate wow mode and not have been hyped as new content for retail.
You guys don't hate plunderstorm because you don't have to do it 5 times every week to upgrade your bis legendary in order to progression raid 😀 Torghast and island expos could have been a lot more fun too.
I don't mind the plunderstorm, its just not my cup of tea so to speak. Yeah im old lol. I would grind it out for the xmog if it stuck around, im just bad at BR's >.<
Everyone wants to jump on the band wagon and say that abilities need to be pruned, or there are too many defensive abilities, and completely forget about how TERRIBLE the game felt going into WoD after pandaria…. Just no guys.. No max. No Dorki. Bad! xD
What about if you deplete a key you get a choice between the current deplete or you get the same key with a cooldown on it. Maybe 2 hours or something like that.
They absolutely just need to change HotS from a moba to this BR. Re-use all kinds of spell and character assets ez pz. Yoink WoW zones with a couple simple changes and bam. Good stand alone game.
Cant kill whats already dead. But for real, button bloat is wildly out of control, and then there is the interactions between those buttons with other actives or passives. We need a spiders web of WAs to even make sense of it. Hero talents just add to that pile of bloat.
I dropped out of DF early S3, I just got tired of the loop and the insane mental load it took to play my class in keys. Between Assassination/Outlaw Rogue and Enhance Shaman it was starting to overheat my brain. I want to come back to the game, but the main reason that I dropped out is not being fixed its being exacerbated. I desperately WANT to enjoy the game but it is squeezing players like me out with the need for key bindings and an AI neural network to process the interactions between abilities.
It'd be very interesting to have an episode dedicated to the role of add-ons in other MMOs – specifically with a number of guests who have recent & accurate experience with the impact of add-ons in those other MMOs.
For me personally: I despise any form of PVP, especially BRs, but I'm truly happy people are enjoying the mode, and anytime there is a win for Blizz I consider it a win for me. However, waiting for months blindly being hyped about doing some Jack Sparrow stuff for it to end up being a mode I know without playing I will hate every minute of is kind of a bummer.
WoW developers could make their own addons that people can opt in and out of, like a rare finder or quest helper or make all bags open with one button and ui changes and what not, they could even have a built in dps meter. Disable all adons and solve the issues to your own game, these quality of life addons would take developers no time to create.
The 10 button thing Asmon clarified that he means "10 Rotational abilities" as in like 10 buttons for core rotation, offensive cd, and defensive cd.
He clarified that classes should absolutely keep their flavor and movement, etc.
Edit: as for the idea that the buttons looking the same and it being overwhelming, I have a personal anecdote. I got up to go to the restroom while leveling and my Ret started getting hit by a mob and my wife yelled asking what to do.
I think the only real mistake Blizzard made was putting it on the road map. If this had just been secretly dropped, people would've been thrilled. My wife and I were super excited to see pirate content coming to WoW but were a bit disappointed when the only connection it had to retail was the client. As a standalone, Plunderstorm is amazing. How expectations were managed was the blunderstorm.
My issue with Plunderstorm is I dropped in for my first few games and got absolutely pub stopped. I wish since my renown was 1 I would’ve been up against people with similar experience.
"Man buns look sick" the worst take I've ever heard 😂
Max, my dude… There is nothing cool about a manbun…

Not discrediting them, but each of these guys livelihood depends on wow continuing to exist and the more popular wow is, they better it is for them.

Race to world first should be on private servers with no addons

Lost it at PoddyC shills out timestamp 😂
Bruh I don't dislike plunderstorm cause I'm old, I don't like it cause its PVP.

I'd be super down for a Dorki-cast episode next week where he just brings on a desk of his favorite co-creators and rambles for an hour! 😀
I have no issue with addons or weakauras.
Please do a solo dorki episode next week even if it was only for patrons I would sub for that lol

Stop being nice to SoD its called Season of Dumbass
To be fair as someone who gets CE every tier & only does enough M+ to get the mount and my raid leader off my back.
Asmons points while extreme are valid. Aside from the 40man raid, thats nuts LOL

Damn Max really got butt hurt by what Asmon said huh
2:14 I was confused when Dratnos didn't say "bean" 😉

"Hit the yellow button"
"They're all yellow"
"Exactly"
