Today we take a look at the cinematic you get when you beat Anduin in the new Sepulcher of the First Ones raid in 9.2 for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. This is sure a thing that happened. Yup.

Reaction starts @2:14. So what did everyone think?
I can imagine the Arthas Fans are going to be pissed.
Totally agree with you btw. Wow's dead. How the hell is a Realm Reborn better written than this? (ARR isn't bad, its just average. Went in with low expectations and enjoyed it for what it was.) This? Feels like a 5 year old could do better than this.
I feel bad, honestly. I want closure, but I don't know how.
I’m completely convinced that the writers and especially Steve Danuser live in a bubble. As I said in a different post, this cinematic adds insult to injury. Pardon my language but they just pissed on the most iconic character in Warcraft history and yet again, Sylvanas gets the last word.
they did arthas so dam dirty, dam those writers
both Saurfang and Varian were able to split the blade but Anduin never could so those two showing up to give him strength to now be able to do so is a great bookend to Anduin growing up to be a king like his father, starting from the very moment he picked up the blade and saw Varian on the Broken Shore. AND Shalamane contains both their souls, you even see them return to the glowing parts of the blade after he splits it.
I just want to thank you (and other people) for introducing me to FFXIV to make me realize how a garbage of a story and content WoW has compared to FFXIV.
Also, the moment Varian and Saurfang put their hands on Anduin's shoulders reminded me of the end of the Nidhogg fight and I was so disappointed they didn't put the Dragonsong music in it, lol
A litle cheese but it was fine.
I was hoping for Arthas and Jaina reunion, but they ruined. I can't believe what the writers did to our favorite character since Warcraft 3, this is definitely going to make Arthas fans pisst
A great way to utterly destroy Arthas's legacy…i wish devs just left him in Wrath and the writers never picked him up with this kind of stupid ending. Like really, of all the things you could do with such an incredibly iconic character is literally DELETE him?
Changing the Crown of Domination, the Lich King's helm, into some golden trash item was already a major insult…and now this 🙁
That and this whole Sylvanas's redemption arc…it's such bad writing.
Well first off I need to make a formal apology, A while back i left an angry comment on your video basically ranting on Blizzard's business practices, kinda had a moment to the players of "How can you support these people". WoW was a game very close to my heart and helped me cope with alot of things and so being a viewer of yours i felt the need to defend those still playing like i was which i saw what you actually meant later in the comment section and for that im sorry for my words even though u dont know me. I was on copeium hoping the lore and gameplay would get better because i thought how could this game go from being great to straight shit. It got to the point where i hated logging in and raiding which is something i loved felt more like a chore because all the dumb inconveniences we as players told the Dev team why we hate the system yet they wouldn't listen.
All that changed when i noticed alot of wow youtubers and streamers were switching to FF14 and i even remember a few irl friends telling me to try it out back around 2015ish. Then i watched the documentary on how SE rebuild FF14 1.0 from the ground up and i started seeing the same mistakes Blizzard is making right now. After seeing how much the lead game designer truly cared about making sure the players are happy I decided to try FF14 and now im hooked I dont even miss playing wow. After seeing how storytelling in a game is supposed to be done, i see all the flaws WoW has especially for new players. It saddens me that Blizzard has butchered the story so much that even though they tried to add a touching moment in this cinematic im just kinda like "Yeah ok". Hell even Nobbel is doing FF14 because he's tired of the story being retconned or just straight not making sense. Even if 10.0 is is a drastic change i just cant see myself coming back to WoW anymore especially seeing what a good game is.
Saurfang died to sylvanas with the blad in his hand.
They both died with shalmame must of sucked their souls in retcon? Lol
I've typed and retyped a million different responses, but my main point is this: what a disappointment.
Years upon years of story and the Blizzard writers are still riding the coattails of characters conceived in WC3 – with the exception of Anduin (whose original character has been diluted down into nonsense) and Bolvar (for a man so heavily marketed and re-revealed in Shadowlands, he does absolutely nothing in the story). And this is the conclusion of those stories? Of Sylvanas? Uther? Jaina? This?
Yikes.
Why Saurfang? Really? Because his Soul is in Shalamayne like Varians. I said it for years. And I was right
I somewhat agree that it sucks that Arthas didn't really get any interaction with characters that probably deserved it, but I think the point was to make it just an even more tragic end to Arthas
Even after he was 'free' when he died, Uther took his soul and cast it into the maw – which it was used in every which way and destroyed to the point that it is now, which is basically nothing – as uther notes that it's just a scarred piece of his spirit and it doesn't even have his soul anymore
As cool as it would have been, I think that this was okay. It's just meant to be sad, and the end – just kind of like – yeah that's what happened to his soul, and it sucks. but it is what it is
Fuck off, arthas deserve More, it was Uther and his ally's betrayed him and lead Arthas to the darkness
I love putting on ad block to watch your videos
I do agree with the surafang thing. Maybe like you mentioned he had the sword when he died. But that still makes little sense . Overall I like it but I thought people would be more angry. I don't think arthas deserves to completely die. Although they say nothing truly is destroyed in the new zone
Well, you could return when Blizzard is full Microsoft hahaha
I don't think Saurfang's appearance is out of context.
Varok and Anduin's relationship, although short, had a narrative reinforcement in two parts:
1. The honor of Varian (Anduin's father) allowing Varok to collect the corpse of his son to give him a proper burial.
2. What Varok's last fight using the sword meant must have tied his soul to the sword in some way, because of the honorability of his actions and his relationship with Varias.
Assuming this, I don't think it's out of context, in fact I think quite the opposite.
Basically Dark Anduin getting saved through the power of friendship.
I just finished FF14 Endwalker last week after having played it since summer, and the contrast in storytelling is so wast it's impossible to compare. These two-minute snippets they release every 3-6 months are so short, shallow and barebone you just end up feeling unfulfilled and disinterested. I have really been spoiled by FF14 with their deep, meaningful characters they use several expansions to grow and still manage to hit the mark with strong emotional payoffs and satisfying conclusions that just makes you care and fall in love with them. And how refreshing is it that all of this happens in-game with no need to read books or watch additional content!
I am also not returning to this game. I stopped after I beat Sir Denathrius on heroic last april-may and have not played since, and I am a veteran who has played it on and off since vanilla. For me I am more than enough content just looking at these short cinematics and watching a synopsis of what's happening.
Wait so they are still saying Arthas needs judgement? Literally in this cinematics but it is denied due to his remnant but Sylvanas won't face it. Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
Also we have seen something resist domination magic already. Elune Night Warrior magic. But ofc that story was entirely pointless could have used it to save Anduin.
I still say Arthas role this expansion should have been
Show up.
Stab and kill Sylvanas.
Leave.
I SERIOUSLY disliked your negativity in this reaction. Honestly
I dont know why people STILL fucking want arthas, let his legacy REMAIN untainted by the current flaws the story has. And i FUCKING love it that they deleted arthas in a way, that he cant get any of this bullshit that recent storytelling received.
Anyway, not to be toxic, but your reaction is just a mess. Varok was there for the orgrimmar makgora 🙂
The only thing you truly got right, is the story about varian. It cant be his soul, because he got poofed. It MUST be inner dialogue.
I agree with most of these comments very underwhelming ending and Sylvanas's change of face in her model looks pointed and half done her lip movements lacking full expression. Blizzard doesn't care nor has ever cared about the story and what the players want. Unlike FFXIV who's story and compassion and care for their community is amazing.
Damn so many Arthas fanboys 😀 It's like Dream, but in WoW
I think the Anduin part was good, but it feels like Sylvanas' monologue was shoved in so forcibly. Uther and Jaina should have had way more dialogue in this particular scene.
As for Saurfang being there, I think it has a deeper meaning than both Varian and him being figments of Anduin's hope. Saurfang was in fact wielding Shalamayne at the time of his death and did manage to split it in half during combat with Sylvanas. I would place a fair bet that "SOMEHOW" Shalamayne somehow saved/linked both of their souls with the blade. To provide a little backing to this theory, in Legion, only after Anduin held Shalamayne in his own hands did Varian manifest to him. Thoughts on this?
Edit: However, this is Anduin with the help (possibly) of Varian and Saurfang breaking the domination of the Jailer who is some sort of evil cosmic death god.. Surely he's not as Titan+ as Blizzard led us to believe. I always imagined him as a Titan Keeper+ level of power.
Edit 2: To reinforce Varian and Varok's souls being saved by Shalamayne, just look at right after Anduin breaks the sword and the two halves swell with golden Light, the same color that their souls are depicted as.
