In thorgast – just run level 5-s to get 2+6 followers that drop from thorgast. No need to run level 8.
Leveling up the Companions does take quite a long time. My favorite version of this system was in Legion, but it is what it is.
If you have a good amount of Characters, a good way to still make a fair amount of Gold is Legion/BfA WQs. There's usually at least +1kG to be made in each expansion. You can get more from the Emissary boxes, as well as the Paragon boxes, once you get the reputation up. It's not bad G/H, it's mostly travel time. It stacks up fast with multiple characters.
The Mission Tables in BfA aren't too bad either. Just focus on Reputation and Pet Battle Tokens and those too add up fast.
Ok, I'm obviously missing something here. How do you know if there are followers in Torghast or not before you complete a heap of floors?
My poor priest needs followers badly.
You forgot to mention not only do you need 500 anima but you also need 1 Redeemed Soul. I find this a lot in "beginner" guides by people that have been playing the game for so long: they forgot what it's like to be a beginner so fail to mention basic information they just take for granted.
