Outputting good numbers is also super important. I’d say just as important. If you’re alive the whole fight and do poopy damage, you deserve to be sat just as much as the people struggling to learn mechanics.
Damage is underrated in this discussion. If everyone does healer dps boss wont die. Enrages and hard enrages in mythic are something you will struggle and no mechanic can save you. The thing is: To pump and do damage you need to stay alive so… everyone needs to do mechs AND pump
Mechanics. Im always complained on for my output, but Im also the last man standing. Im also the one jumping in for others that doesnt give a f about other things than theyre dps. 🤔 1 tunneler can wipe a raid pretty fast.😉
As long as it's not a cluster of mechanics I don't mind it but when your trying to dodge swirly boys, waves of crap, tentacles and an aoe while trying to do damage or heal is outrageous
ofcourse mechanics are more important, but more dps makes mechanics easier. And the thing is, its really not to hard to do some ok dps for most of the classes
Most important thing in raids? Simple, just ask yourself "is this fun?" If it is then the raid has done it's job, if it isn't fun, then the raid failed.
Mechanics is the most important thing in a raid/dungeon or whatever you are doing. Top dps doesn't matter if you don't kill whatever you wanna kill. A dead player is a no good player and should not get any loot at all.
So many people focus on dps and ignore overall damage numbers. At the end of the fight, you've got the two damage numbers to view. On a boss fight, the guy with less dps but more overall damage who survived the fight contributes more than the guy who does more dps, but less overall damage cuz he never fucking survives lol
Both matter but if your lower on output but you don't die to dumb shit your more worth being there then the guy that does top dps but dies to dumb shit . Dead = worthless Live = still doing damage/heals
You can have all of the mechanics perfectly executed but if you dont have enough dps to even get the boss down and its taking too long to even get past phase 1…then output is more important. You can have amazing dps burn the boss through each phase, have people die, and still get him down. I pug raids alot and ive seen many strats and countless people with different ilvls. However, there is usually a boss that you cant just burn, mechanics are incredibly important to make things quick and smooth.
Dead dps or heals do no heals and dead tanks wipe the raid . So it’s mechanics but so many raid teams let people who can’t do mechanics slide all the time
Just depends you will never clear content with low performing player even if they do the mechanics perfectly because the bosses have dps checks that won't be met. If it's a more casual environment doesn't matter that much those people are killing the bosses after multiple nerfs so dps isn't it's own mechanic. It comes down to you need both and mainly good players who can identify when to prio dps over lesser mechanics while still doing all the important ones correctly
In reality, i think there's a great correlation between the two. Most heavy hitters are also good with mechanics, and folks that struggle with their dps often times also struggle with mechanics. But if you have shitty gear, i would say forget about your dps and just try to the mechanics right and learn to survive. Your leader should adjust their expectations based on your ilvl. After focus on getting those numbers up once you're on par with your gear
Mechanics.. ive been playing since 2009. If yoi cant do mechanics the boss will not die. Especially in vanilla wow. If you dont stsck tanks for patchwerk hell kill you 1 by 1 with hatefuls. If you dont dispell the poisons on grobbulus hell kill you. If you dont kite zombie chows on gluth hell just heal off all your damage. Mechanics are especkally important in retail wow necause theres 3 different 1 shot mechanics. You can kill a boss if you are undergeared if you do the mechanics properly. It mkght be slightly scuffed and more punishing if you make a mistake. But no mattef what your gear is. You can have the best od the best gear i. The game and still die if you cant do mechanics. My warrior on classic vanilla era still dies and hes got all BIS
99.3 % of the people are going to say mechanics. And they are somewhat right. But output is also important. Failing mechanics and dieing is really really bad. But doing like a 33 percentile every fight while doing all the mechanics flawlessly isn’t great either.
Dead dps is no dps

If you're failing mechanics, you're not going to clear content.
If you're flawless on mechanics and the boss enrages, it's output.

Healing meter !!! Dps only use little number healers heal in CAPMFS
Dead dps do no dps
Just wanted to thank you for popping up on my feed. After a long time away from wow I’m back and it’s all because of you
One day in a addon and weakaura playing field we will get back to basics
Mechanics
You need both. Mechanics is slightly higher for me because dead dps is no dps. Buuuuut, hit your damn buttons.
Bro yall just need to let this game die
Shiny loots and story

Agree, if players manage mechanics Its way easier to help them with an improved dps rotation than it is to get them to understand a boss
My fav Raid leader once said:
Do you want to HURT the Boss? Or do you want to KILL the Boss?
However I also had the Situation, where people could not kill a normal Raidboss because the output for Adds was just abysmal..
Dead dps is 0 dps.

Mechanics ALWAYS.

They are equally important

What really gets me is the number of players saying ohh new to this one ect ect like 20 years man 20 YEARS … EVERY DAMN FIGHT is adds over boss
Hey that’s me lol
If someone thinks numbers will kill a boss, then that's not a raid leader, but some random pleb.

look at me I have 2 million dps, but overall damage is 2.1 million because you died 5 seconds into the fight.

Output dps doesnt count for fuck all if you are dead. Mechanics are more important to learn.
I was kicked for spitting that heresy.
I’m a raid leader in a mythic prog guild. I can fix low dps and hps, I can’t fix somebody who refuses to learn
