I dove into one of the critical scenes in Shadowlands’ Kingsmourne cinematic, the moment when Anduin seems to resist the control of the Jailer and look in horror at what he’s doing.

  1. What I find interesting was Anduin was always a Disc Priest. But with this expansion, I saw Paladin under his name. Will that change help or harm? Was it an error? Who knows.

  2. I felt like I am finally diggin Anduin as character, because u never saw flaws or emotional war within him. I mean yes he was ofc sad about dad etc.

But finally I feel he can be interesting especially his panting and fear you could see in the cinematic, when jailor's grip softens for a few seconds and him realizing he downed the First Borne.

  3. I am not sure he will be compromised and fall into despair, but it will certainly change him and make him more edgy when/if he comes out of this. It very well might be the catalyst that allows Anduin to harness the void that appeared in his hand at the end of Shadows Rising. If that happens he'll be more powerful then he was before being able to use light and void.

  4. When you think of how traumatised Jaina Baine and Thrall were, and Anduin has been through so much more…well it is sad. It seems a lot of Shadowlands is about trying to rescue people (don't mention the Drust). I think we will need a priest..oh wait…

  5. I don't totally agree that Turalyon would view Anduin as forever tainted if he found a way to rid himself of the Jailer's control. Turalyon famously sees positives in negatives, like when Anduin Lothar died and Turalyon took up his shattered sword to lead the Alliance of Lordaeron to victory in the Second War. If Anduin comes out of this as himself, Turalyon might see that as the ultimate proof of the Light's power and benevolence, which might jumpstart his zealous side and convince him that they need to spread the word of the Light to all the Horde races, by force if necessary.

  6. Honestly, let him go down that cynical path. Let this “PTSD” actually have effects that make him a complex character. He was always the “golden boy” but what happens when that shine gets tarnished? Will the Light still come to him after this? Who knows

  7. So maybe at the end of this, Turalyon feels he's corrupted, irredeemably so. That he's no longer fit to rule, and refuses to relinquish the throne to this agent of evil.

And Turalyon has to lead a crusade to cleanse Azeroth of the evil he sees everywhere, starting with the Horde and those loyal to the Wrynn line.

Would be nice to have a villain come from the Alliance again. Seems like it's been a while.

  8. Anduin is strong enough to overcome and rise above this. Sure, there will be a brief period where he will need counsel to help him come to terms with it, but ultimately he will prevail and be stronger for it. I hope they don't make him a tortured emo man-boy in the interim; that would ruin the kingly person he once was. He is wise enough to know that his actions were not his own, and the real fault/blame lies with those who controlled him.

  9. what if the threat of maw powers (Anduin) coming to Azeroth finally convinces Khadgar to take on the mantle of Guardian? with flying unlocked in 9.1 the Kirin Tor can just fly Dalaran right into the maw to fight the jailor in person.

  10. I too have wondered if the Bell is going to play a role in this, it would be really awful if whenever the Jailer makes him do something he's in agony – a good reason to turn away from the "benevolent" Light if it punishes him for something he has no control over.

  11. I don't think he snaps out of anything in that moment tbh. My theory is there are two levels of control over him. The first is when the Jailer possesses him directly – the runes are not lit up and the Jailer speaks and acts through him.
The second level is when the runes activate and he turns into an expressionless robot. That brief moment he returned to himself was the lag between the Jailer leaving him, and the runes activating. The Jailer doesn't need to possess him full time, basically.

  12. Arthas: I would gladly bear any curse to save my homeland.
Frostmourne: Lol, This soul is delicious😋 now let's go commit mass murder.

Now iirc Sylvanas and the undead that broke free did so because the necromantic magic was weakening which is why Arthas had to make his way to the frozen throne and put on the helm. What if that was when the jailer started his contingency plan?….
Probably not, but fun to theory craft.

For Anduin- I wonder if his story will tie in with Z'rali who fell in the Shadowlands and can't return to her naaru buddies because she's been tainted by the realms of death ☠️

  13. Tarnishing the squeaky clean Anduin is necessary if they are going down the "Alliance Warchief" route. You can't have Anduin be a shining example if you want there to be sides to take. The other side would immediately be the bad guys. Having Anduin tarnished allows for some wiggle room in that story-line. They could even be setting him up to pull a Thrall and be too broken to be leader, naming an unfit successor. I can hear the forums now…

  14. I can’t believe I’d forgotten about that bell truth telling ability. The only way I can see it getting worse is if it’s actually causing him pain As he’s being forced to do all this. Ouch… 🤢

  15. Although we will most likely save Anduin, he will not be the same after this nightmare. He's going to be more cynical, but also stronger. Unlike Sylvanas, he will have friends and allies who will help him recover, and prevent him from going down the same dark path.

  16. just a thought what if anduin went willingly. i'm not saying the archon attack was him but what if he and sylvanas are working together. we never see him actually get controlled and there is no way she trusts the jailor

  17. Varyn didn't exactly have a golden past. He was once a slave forced to fight in the arena. His mood swings tend towards the more violent. Anduin has been the opposite, so I see this as an opportunity for character building. I'm still interested to see if something develops between him and Talia Fordring.

  18. It's breaking my heart to see what's being done to Anduin. There will be huge PTSD and he won't be the same for a very long time, if ever. I know his character has to grow and develop, I just wish it wasn't like this, something so the polar opposite of him and everything he believes and stands for. I believe The Jailer let Anduin "out" for a moment to show Andi what he used him for – to punish Andi for his taunt of "You failed" at the Waystone. Thank you for this video, this is what I've been thinking and feeling these past two weeks since the cinematic dropped.

  19. Lol'd @ The domination kink part, maybe after we free Anduin from the domination magic he might go, just 5 more minutes please? Or just puts Kingsmourne in his backpack for later when he's lonely.

  20. There is a popular theory that hypnosis cannot compel someone to do what is completely abhorrent to their nature. Attacking the Archon is against Anduin's nature so perhaps the Jailer had to exert so much compulsion that his grip on Anduin weakened a little after the dirty deed was done. Some think the Jailer let go for a moment to torment Anduin and break his spirit. Blizzard does not tell us and I think they mainly gave us that glimpse to show us Anduin remains intact.

The Jailer used Anduin like a trojan horse to gain an audience with the Archon. He did not reveal himself until he was in range of his target. Its strange that Uther sensed the evil presence when near Anduin but the Kyrian did not notice and allowed Anduin access. As for me, I want Anduin fully restored to his former self, with nothing more grievous than the occasional nightmare to disturb his sleep. I don't find his virtue tedious or implausible. He follows the light but he is not the blind fanatic that Turalyon tends to be. I loved when Illidan blasted that Naaru for trying to revert him against his will. Turalyon was outraged.

I have never had the impression that Sylvanas lost free will after her death. Rather she used that tragedy as justification, shifting the responsibility for her decisions by continually blaming Arthas. Her deeds are entirely her own. Nobody forced her to slay Forsaken at Stromgarde and at Lordaeron. Nobody forced her to burn Teldrassil. I think when she is confronted with Anduin she sees her former self. And she begins to see that if she remains complicit with the Jailer in destroying Anduin then she is no better than Arthas. That is intolerable for her because that would destroy the image she holds of herself as the injured party. She cannot reclaim what she lost and cannot avert her fate. However, she can redeem herself in her own eyes, regardless of the consequences she must face. Anduin cut closer to the truth than he knew when he told her she must choose.
