Is Retail World of Warcraft too complicated? Is WoW too bloated? Is the War Within Dead? Are Hero Talents to blame? There’s been a lot of discourse over the last week about the new expansion feature, and we should talk about that as Blizz reveal they are reworking Oracle Priest. PLUS the weekly news as we cover the Voices Within and the WoW tarot books, the climax of the Traitor’s Rest story and Fyr’alath’s improved drop chances.

the war within is a fitting title because it's an expansion about everyone internally struggling with pretending their player fantasy isn't more fun than doing 4.5 more dps than Robert.
No chance the enhancement hero talents can bring back 2h shaman? That was a world of joy!!!
Problem with Hero Talents is the same issue as Covenant Trees. My r.shaman got Vesper Totem & was overpowered in M+ the entirety of Shadowlands. My r.druid got covoke which was meh all of SL for M+ & raid. My priest whom got Boon of the Ascended was very good in M+. The covenant abilities were not close in relation to each other for player power e.g. r.sham =OP, Priest =good, druid convoke =meh. Shadowlands was two years, RIP if your class got a crappy convanent ability.
F for those who didn't get the legendary yet
After getting the BFA AOTCs i was pushing for I was happy. Then Seeing SL and what it brought I quit the moment it went live. Then a few years later, aka a few months ago, I came back and am loving playing my class in the spec I want and doing well. Not seeing another "Forced spec" expansion means I'll play the spec I want and roll the dice on if its good or not. After that Ill decided if I wanna quit again or not. I hope not.
Still hoping for LFR+ so i can run normal and heroic
Meanwhile I still haven't gotten my legendary… 11 years on Ret only to swap Auggie so I can play competitively all because of bad rng 🙁 Failed a 40% drop rate today
the core of the community is dead. The game might not be dead, but it won't grow ever. take classic for eg the meta is buy gold and pay some asian fly hacker to boost you to 60 then buy some more gold and start doing gkpt you cant raid unless you buy gold if you don't have the gear to make gold from gkpt as a carry. this no way to have a mmo it's not sustainable, and new players quit once they realise this.
Sorry, I could hardly focus with how HANDSOME Tali looks. My guys getting more attractive the older he gets. Evi is one lucky lady.
Ok listen.. why is hero talents any different than having to choose between two specs, whew one or the other will be meta… that is also two different fantasies as well.
Like all these reactions are completely crazy.. you are complaining about every single extension or addition to WoW and you guys still come back to it.
All the different systems and experimentation has been good for wow in my opinion. If they had kept it as it were in classic the game wouldn’t have survived. They even have to make stuff like SOD to keep classic fresh.
Of course some systems were good and some were bad, but if you got perfection all the time, you would not know what perfection is.
People keep trash talking wow, but there is no game that does what WoW does. It keeps surviving and it keeps experimenting in a good way! People that doesn’t think either retails or any classic version is good can just go play something else, easy as that.
I think the BIGGEST problem has become the addons. They can do too much nowadays and they are breaking the game with bugs and necessity.
Addons should be removed completely and the ui should absorb stuff like combat stats(details for example).
I feel like this is going more into "you are playing your class wrong" woods here. I tell many people that the top builds aren't always the best for you and how you handle and play the game. The sad part is it leads to people not trying things outside those community boxes.
I'm more interested in learning more about the WoW Tarot deck. Like, are they going to be releasing a guidebook on how to properly use the deck? If so, do they have people who not only know how to use them & actually do so working on it? Or are they just doing for the sake of marketing & trying to get more people to play the game?
WoW can't die ,it will only be merely be a setback .
My problem with this argument about hero talents is this: choosing a spec in the first place is the exact same thing. There's class fantasy in every single spec in the game. Some moreso than others, but the fantasy is still there for every spec. Especially when it comes to multi-dps classes, how does your entire argument not apply the exact same way? Does that mean they should separate the fantasy from power of every spec in the game? No, that would be absurd
Now, if they did decide to separate the fantasy from the power, would I be upset? No. I wouldn't care, but I wouldn't be upset. But do I think people should be upset if they don't? Absolutely not. You'd be getting upset at the devs for making you make the kind of choice that's already existed in the game for years.
And shame on anyone even beginning to try to compare this to covenants. Forcing people into a fantasy was so far down on the list of covenants' problems. Difficulty swapping between them, the grind needed to max them, conduit energy, etc, were all much more drastic issues (none of which are present with hero talents) that it's ridiculous to even mention them in the same breath.
I know alot of people I talk to where hoping this new talent thing would be more ascetic than actually changing the class
I'm honestly confused by this. I seem to be one of very few who like hero talents….
True, that should be like a visual thing only. On shadowlands i hated to choose night fae, picking the others were losing like a lot of dmg. Was the worst sentiment ever that i had to go to the fae lair, im not a fan of that, but had no choice. I hope they dont commit the same mistake.
So Shadow Paladin incoming?
Wow content creators are really the biggest problem with the game.. they ruin everything before it is even given a chance to breathe.. they are just greedy for what THEY want. They influence the player base before it can even make up its own mind
you say it's common but running normal and lfr every week since it unlock and heroic for 2 clears, yet I see no axe. why gods forsake my blood dk?
Separating the fantasy and power feels bad. So does marrying them together. I would want my fantasy to be more than just cosmetic, but I would hate to feel like I need to choose the strongest path to be competitive. This is pretty much an age-old problem that has existed between skill trees and classes. There is no way to perfectly balance things like this without making it exactly the same set of numbers and use cases, but that feels so "samey" that most people would nope out very quickly. There is no way to win is what I'm saying.
Now if they were ready to do community pleasing changes and delete PI
I am so sick of the argument that making player power and aesthetics separate is a good idea. It's not a good idea at all, it's probably one of WoW's worst ideas, and it's infesting every aspect of the game because every time someone gets a little too sweaty it happens again. And again. And again.
In order for World of Warcraft to be comprehensible and readable in combat the game should create clear visual and audio cues as to what is happening and it should be easy to distinguish them. It makes it easier to play, and it makes it easier to play against which is important for the PvP crowd. If you make one spell 10 appearances, then nobody really knows what they're looking at anymore except, hopefully, the player itself through sheer practice and weakauras. Even without multiple appearances we already have problems in this regard, notably many spells and procs completely lack a visual or audio indicator. If you get Firemind on a firemage, the buff just appears in your buff frames and that's it. SKB's stacking aura appears the same as SKB's ready aura – that is they have the same icon – and they have no visual effect at all. Now you wanna take focus even further away from readability by not just ignoring these sorts of problems, but adding to the, no pun intended, fire?
Further, making everything an appearance adjustment only can reduce player fantasy significantly. I honestly wouldn't want to play mage if it was nothing more than a visual skin on warriors for example. We accept this particular instance of player power being tied to visuals even though we know that the top are all rerolling to the best thing possible, but we can't have others? Why not? Because you're too sweaty, that's why; and because the game likes to demand that we are by taking the difficulty up so far that you must be.
The real problem here is that it's adding a ton of complexity on top of an already incredibly complex game. An action as simple as casting a Frostfire Bolt will now do 22 things with what is likely to be the most popular build, and that is not good for the game. The problem is not hero talents per se, the problem is the amount of talent points or the number of points each talent costs,, and that hero talents of course adds significantly to that by bringing out another 10 of them to every player. I love the talent system, but we get to pick far too much of it. We don't need this thing – we need to go the other way. However, it's a hard sell for the developers to make an expansion where they announce taking away things…
They should keep the Hero talents but add more Glyphs and really change the appearance of alot of the abilities. I feel like this combination would really satisfy what the community is after.
On a side note i hope they give MW monks the ability to change the color of their mists. That would be really awesome haha.
