It’s no secret that World of Warcraft Shadowlands did a lot of harm to WoW and also destroyed Warcraft’s name but would a complete retcon of Shadowlands be BAD??

  1. An acceptable retcon might be to say: ok, what you have seen is an anima factory with only 5 zones and the eternal ones, which was built by the first ones (or maybe the titans perverted the whole thing), but the infinite realms of afterlives are actually nothing like this.

  2. Shadowlands is an outlyer. It's entirely so horrible that deleting it would be an excellent benefit for the future of WoW. It would be like if someone release a new car with square wheels then saying we can't go back and change the design to use round wheels. We'll just have to deal with it and continue forward accepting it and all future cars will be based on that square wheel design. Shadowlands lore/story is the "square wheels" of WoW.

  3. WoW has been retconned to hell and back since Classic release retconning the RTS games, hello? TBC retconned a LOT, same with WotLK. WoW has never stopped retconning.

If Shadowlands is not retconned in some fashion, there is no way to work around the damage it's done to not only current lore, but future lore with the diminishment of death, the afterlife and religious belief of the races of Azeroth. There is no way to avoid that. That poisons the well for future stories. The only situation in which a retcon is acceptable is if its to amputate gangrenous lore. That's exactly what SL is.

  4. Maybe thats where the time skip comes in. The characters in WoW only perceive it as a vague memory wondering whether it was real or not and just shrug it off as deja vu. For the players, speculators and others, it feels like a lump of rock that cant be moved and is just something we have to deal with. It seems like the SLs should be the very last expansion WoW would ever make and be years from now cause its very out of place imo.
