Today we explore a place I never thought possible. Today we explore an area that should theoretically not exist. Today we UnCraft the Ruins of Gilneas from World of Warcraft’s Cataclysm expansion. There’s a ton to explore, so let’s jump in.

“Gilneas will be reborn from the blood of our enemies.”

This is part 1 of 2.

  1. Something I LOVED was exploring half baked zones that never made into the game such as the dancing troll village or that island at tanaris sea and underwater town. Then with flying mounts I thought that it wasnt possible to find such zones, that everything was reachable, so thanks very much for re-discovering to me that kind of wow magic ☺️

  2. Fun fact : I just tried this with my worgen rogue and while i HAVE been teleported back into the questline version of Gilneas, i wasn't teleported into the same VERSION of questline Gilneas as the video. There definitely is a hidden character "quest completion" check to see which version of the zone you get transported to if you release spirit "within" that little blip ontop of the tower.

  3. I've done this a few times too!

If you manage to clip back into Gilneas city, all the NPCs are there because the zone we bug ourselves into is just the Worgen Starter zone, which changes and phases more npcs elsewhere as you progress through the quests.

If you go to where the worgen characters spawn in, Liam Greymane will be there spouting "Stand ready guards!"

  4. From my understanding, there has been absolutely NO information as to why there's a gnomish submarine in Gilneas. My only assumption is that they were initially using the gnome's experience with the plague that caused leppers as a basis for them to clean up Sylvanas's plague.

  5. Hm. Several years ago, I escaped Gilneas and wandered into a broken and shattered version of Alterac as a Gilneas Human. (And made a video of it.) Now, you've broken into Gilneas as a Demon Hunter. That's… pretty darn cool, not gonna lie.

  6. from my memory of doing this back when this trick was discovered around WoD, the closest spirit healer is the one at the Gilneas cemetary area. still a long trek but not as long of a trek you took to get into the city itself.. also requires zero jumping over anything or needing to be a DH to get over things the average other player class cant.

  7. little late to the party, but honestly the best race/class to do this on is Demon Hunter (either Night Elf or Blood Elf) because you can double jump parkour over the invisible walls. tried doing it on my Dracthyr, and ended up finding a spirit healer outside Gilneas City (only to be taken back to Duskhaven)

Edit: OMG IM FUCKING STUPID, I FORGOT THERES A PATH TO TAKE FROM THE CITY TO THE GRAVEYARD THATS STILL OPEN. JUST USE THAT TO TALK WITH THE SPIRIT HEALER INSIDE THE CIY

  8. 22:27 Interesting thing. I explored Gilneas on a Classic server, and the map lies. The thing jutting out into the sea is just ocean. Gilneas past the gate is just a big enclosed area. Cataclysm Gilneas is the best interpretation of Gilneas we have yet.

  9. When I try breaking in to gilneas on a worgen that didn't go through the starting experience, it puts me in a version of gilneas where the phasing is all messed up and the earthquakes have already happened despite the quests not being done yet. Do you have any idea what is causing this? My ultimate goal would be to play through the starting zone as a worgen that went through exile's reach (or a class trial/boosted character). The quests show up on my map but when I go there are no NPCs except for the one for "Endgame."

  10. This is so neat. ^.^ I've heard of players creating worgen and doing a swim-skip out of the zone to quest elsewhere at level 1 (or thereabout). So for the people who commented here that worgen start in the final phase of the zone when they explore this as you have, I'm wondering – if a person had done the swim-skip and then returned to this version of the zone, it seems (logically) then they would be in the same zone version as any other race which hadn't originally quested here. Has anyone tried that??
