You missed The War of Thorns CG with Malfurion and Tyrande.
The subject of power-scalling is fairly meaningless because it all depends on the Blizzard's writer. Same thing in every super-hero comic-book.
If they WANT peons to beat up Illidan, you can trust that they WILL find a way to do it.
On the BFA cinematic when Anduin is performing his holy magic the whole thing to my eyes is Anduin trying to emulate his father Varian but realizing he's not hi's father, he's not that kind of leader and he's not a battle hardened warrior, he's a very powerful wielder of the light and that's the way he must fight. Basically Anduin finding himself and understanding that he can be a leader without the need of being like his father.
4:25:58 – Both factions lose a tremendous amount of soldiers in the initial battle for Lordaeron (and the War of Sparks that came just before) at the start of the Battle for Azeroth. To replenish their ranks and gain the upper hand, both the alliance and the horde tried to sway neutral city states to join their factions.
The horde wanted to gain the allegiance of the zandalari empire – the strongest and oldest of the troll tribes. The horde lands right in the middle of civil war and has to help resolve that to get the zandalari to join their faction.
The alliance instead went to gain the allegiance of Kul Tiras, a naval nation that seceded from the alliance after the second war (just after Warcraft 2). Kul Tiras is also the place Jaina is from, so it serves as a homecoming of sorts for her, but also a resurfacing of trauma. Like her Harbinger episode shows, many kul tirans see her as a traitor because they think she betrayed her father Daelin when he came to Kalimdor to 'save' her. The alliance story revolves around political infighting amongst the noble houses and trying to clear Jaina's name.
4:53:07 – On the scale of the world; The in-game world is sort of meant to be a condensed version of the real life geography. Elwynn Forest, as an example, is a big enough forest to require days of travel (canonically) but it takes 1-2 minutes in the game to run from one end to the other.
When it comes to scale of how zones are imagined for cinematics etc, the maps and how they are actually shown in game, they take some deliberate poetic license to make it all work, so in cinematics a zone you can run across in 5 mins might be shown as rolling hills that extend to the horizon etc, 'cause in reality the zones would be a LOT bigger, but that would be kinda boring to play in and take a lot of time and effort to actually make unless they left them mostly empty, it would also just take too much time to get anywhere unless they made portals to get around between zones and at that point there's no point making an open world if nobody's gonna see it.
If you havent already pls react to the Sylvanas vs saurfang makgorah cinematic. its unreal .
Hey, @PhilipHarts.
Apparently I just got banned from your Discord after someone accused ME of causing people to self-delete, and this other person – Hathoor or something – is apparently still in the Discord, lying about me. I did not attack anyone, I kept the conversation civil, and Hathoor resorted to namecalling and worse. Apparently threw a tantrum so fierce I got yeeted by a mod/admin, after I blocked them to escape their vitriol.
Signed, one of your Knight Loremasters.
Elf Lore: Trolls evolved into Night Elves through the magic Well of Eternity. Like Illidan, Azshara and Tyrande. After the first Legion invasion, they forbade magic use. They banished the Highborne mages, which became the Blue-Eyed High Elves of Quel’thalas. After enduring genocide and the destruction of their magic Sunwell, they renamed themselves the Blood Elves. Their use of darker magics turned their eyes green.
Bwomsandi was one of the best characters Blizzard made in a long time, and it sucks he was discarded like everyone else.
The in-game cinematic around 3:45:00 is one of my favorites in terms of establishing Sylvanas's character, particularly her as a 'villain.' The way she sits on the throne w so much arrogance and nonchalance, and the way she speaks so condescendingly to everyone, even Anduin. And the way she gets up so calmly after being threatened 'surrender or die' and just walking completely up to him w no worry whatsoever. I like that even though it's 4 on 1, the music and her body language still makes the audience think that the 4 are the ones in trouble, not the 1. And the fact that she was willing to basically destroy the entire city just so that the alliance couldn't have it, to invalidate their victory. This might be a stretch, but I think Sylvanas's last smirk when looking at Anduin is the both of them realizing that while Anduin has grown as a king, a leader, and a warrior, he will never be able to reach the level of "I will do whatever it takes to win this war" that Sylvanas has, demonstrated by her destruction of Lordaeron and Teldrassil.
2:16:14 Now you understand why Thrall said "The world needs your light again Anduin" in the TWW trailer 😉
As Varian said, "For the Alliance!"
Hahahah yeah, the powerful mages of Warcraft are insanely OP
Did you notice the burnt-on tears of Sylvanas? Those are the tears she shed when killed by Arthas, frozen there forever on her face. They are symbolic of what was done to her, as will be shown later (in Shadowlands).
Sylvanas with super powers of darkness, Anduin with power of the Light.
Of every character in "Battle for Azeroth" cinematic, Anduin is the one who least wants to be there.
JAINA!
"Beware, beware… of ME"
Jaina is one of the greatest mages on Azeroth, and she has reasons to be PISSED with the Horde.
Arthas with Frostmourne = Elric with Stormbringer.
His sword was a wild card tilting any duel.
The battle for Lordaeron was always a death trap. Sylvanas sacrificed her own capital and thousands of her citizens to trap the Alliance forces. In blight-bombing her own city, she is now responsible for destroying two capitals, hers and the Night Elves.
CORRECTION: 3 cities; Sylvanas destroyed Gilneas (Worgen capital) as well.
Bwonsamdi is the Loa of Death, but not in a bad way. He is the Loa of Death that all must face in the end.
Rezan had been the Loa of Kings, but was betrayed and slain, leaving the Zandalari rulers without a patron Loa. Here the king chooses Bwondamdi to be their new Loa. Troll spiritualism draws a lot on Voodoo traditions.
The BFA intro cinematic was only epic back before we came to understand what it was building up to. Every cinematic after this one, which great visually, is just nostalgia bait and bad storytelling. I hope you find some joy in it, but it gets harder to watch these from this point in from me. Great game, ruined by a new generation of designer.
Princess Talan'ji did not summon those ships. She called upon the power of her Loa Rezan, that she was a priest of, to push her ship, and part the mists to reveal the Zandalari fleet guarding her lands.
Story so far here: Teldrassil (Night Elves) and Undercity/Lordaeron (Undead Forsaken) are lost at the start. As open war erupts, the Horde seeks to ally with the Zandalari Trolls, and the Alliance with the Human nation of Kul Tiras. Both of which are independent, and have a huge navy. So before the Saurfang story continues, we deal with the problems in those lands.
Compared to Kul Tiran vessels, pirate ships are practically rowboats… 😛
Jaina is like the third strongest mage on the planet in current lore imo. Only Azshara and Khadgar beat her.
For power scaling Illidan and Arthas are about even.
Lich king and his army>Azshara>Lich King alone>Illidan>Malfurion>Khadgar>Jaina>Thrall. Mind you thrall is one of the strongest if not the strongest shaman on the planet and is not weak at all.
@2:38:20 When she got killed by Arthas, her spirit was forced to stay in the realm of the living because of Arthas/Frostmourne.
He did not want to grant her a quick death, and thus made her into a banshee, so her real actual form right now is legit a ghost, but she then broke free from Arthas and went and found her own body and is using that as a puppet pretty much to look more normal.
Frostmourne said “I’ve taken care of everything” to Arthas. He didn’t say it to his father.
Originally there was just one Elf race, the Night Elves. The nobles of that society were known as the Highborne. most Highborne were killed or turned into naga when the Well of Eternity imploded, while others were isolated on the Broken Isles and became the Nightborne. The Highborne that remained ended up being banished, and became known as the High Elves. When Arthas came and decimated the High Elf society, the survivors took to calling themselves Blood Elves. I think that's all the elves
The trolls' loa are based on the Lwa of Haitian voodoo. They're not necessarily gods, but rather ancient spirits that would be more closely compared to angels or patron saints in Abrahamic religions. Bwonsamdi is directly based on the Haitian Lwa, Bawon Sanmdi (aka Baron Samedi).
