'Shadowlands' DCS World Online Training by Former RAF Fighter Pilot and Flying Instructor

Read more about Shadowlands ➜ https://worldofwarcraft.mgn.tv

Using my experience from a decade of being a Royal Air Force flying instructor on the Hawk T1 and T2, I bring you the Shadowlands server where you can fly safely and learn out of the spotlight that you’ll find on other servers.

Go to www.patreon.com/timdavies to join (‘Basic’ for free fly/’Advanced’ for FULL instruction).

This server is for those who want to learn the fundamentals of aviation, the hard bits that are easy to skip but will bite you in the end. The reason real flying training on fast jets takes up to 5 years, is because understanding the fundamentals is critical in being able to understand the advanced techniques and those used for tactical weapon employment. In the RAF, a student will not have learned anything about weapon delivery until their third year in flying training – that’s how essential the basics are but, don’t worry, the advanced work is covered here, too.

This is not your normal DCS server where you throw missiles at a faceless enemy and wait to be killed by a 12 year old who has yet to learn how to start the jet.

My server is about everything you don’t yet see on DCS. How to start, taxi, take-off correctly, formation departures, joins, re-joins, formation discipline, low-level formation, real comms, recovery to the airfield as a pair of 4-ship, circuit, instrument patterns and then when you’ve mastered all of that…

…we get to go and target some bad people!

This server is accessible only through Patreon and is a paid for product.

Timings are fluid as students are global but there is always 4 sessions per week and a whole free fly server day to practise, ask questions or just practise your checks.

  1. This all looks good. However paying for simulator lessons is way out of my league. I thought you were gonna take a few up at a time and help with dogfight tactics!
Anyhoo make sure you post up on the ED forums, especially around the 'Squadrons' pages. Sure to drum up plenty of interest.
I wish you well with your venture Sir.

  2. This is a really cool opportunity. Time in a sim, with one of the RAFs senior instructors. Private companies and states, pay obscene amounts of money, for this kind of stuff lol. Nice one, Tim. 👍

Yeah, that pretty much sums up why I don't do much online. Nothing wrong with it, just not my, as yawl say, "cup of tea".

Hmmmm. I try to do this on my own – which indicates I'm going to see you soon.

    PS: Question
Comm's setup – how do you communicate? Discord, SRS, or the built in DCS stuff (not sure that works yet does it?)

  4. Is there a reason why you decided on the Open Beta Verison of the software? Normally it's not feature complete and is based on squashing bugs prior to being a release candidate. Maybe things have changed since I was a C sharp programmer in the gaming world. Asking as a potential subscriber as I honestly crap 50 USD down at the pub

  5. Hi Tim,
Wonder if I could ask a question that I’ve wondered about ever since doing DCS. How does a military pilot spot ground targets? Apart from lasar, are you directed by ATC? Is the target already spotted and and locked in as a waypoint on your flight plan? If I don’t already know exactly where they are beforehand I can’t find a thing, perhaps because I’m using a monitor as opposed to real life, but it still seems to me pretty much like finding the proverbial in the hay stack! Thanks – Neil.
